Do you 'calmn cents' really have to take a "dig," at me, every chance you get! This is a difficult Holiday Season for me so to see your unkind comments is very un-Christian! And the fact is, I can fit in a Tanning Booth, I went into the Tanning Salon but they would not let me use their services because of "excuses"; and now I see it has been closed. It is important for people to get Vitamin D and ultraviolet radiation during the Winter months to prevent the Sunlight Deprivation Syndome which can cause depression, or, in people who already have it, Depression, can worsen it! If you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all.

NO there should be no parking meters in Herkimer. SPECIAL NOTE to Herkimer officials: Dear Morons, Your goal is to ATTRACT shoppers and visitors to your hellhole of a downtown. Not DETER shoppers visitors with >nickel and dime< meters and increasing parking fines. Look at the numbers of this survey. By more than 10 to 1, people think parking meters are a stupid idea; look at the comments from people. CLUE UP MORONS ! Your village is falling to pieces and you're fiddling.

Main St wrote: interesting articles, thank you for posting. let's note the articles concern BIG cities that actually have the problem of too many cars and too few parking spaces. that's hardly the case in downtown herkimer! the only problem, if there is one, is that eliminating parking meters would mean residents take many of the spots, limiting parking for (theoretical) visitors and shoppers. If that is a problem, all Herkimer needs to do is what Albany and many other cities do -- limit parking in one spot to three or so hours ONLY IN THE HIGHEST DENSITY AREAS which in Herkimer might be a portion of N. Main and maybe a portion of Albany St. c'mon Herkimer, clue the freak up! we have already established that parking meters strictly for revenue generation have been declared by courts to be ILLEGAL, and they are clearly for no other purpose in Herkimer! Do I have to sue you to get rid of the damn things? YOu're hurting my business, and I have customers and would-be customers ready to testify to that fact -- they are hesitant to come to Main Street because of the parking hassle and fear of a parking ticket!

Why...so the bottom feeders who run Herkimer can blow more of our money? They can’t manage the money they have now … why give them more to mismanage.

Main Drag wrote: As a business owner on Main st. i can tell you first hand that the biggest complaint I hear from my customers is the need to worry about having change on hand to pay the meters and worry about their time running out. I have had people literally run out the door when they see an officer walk by our store to check their meters. I have lost customers because of this nuisance and it is a daily conversation in our building about the meters. i have witnessed officers write a ticket for an expired meter when there were 4 other empty spots surrounding the car. This is not for regulating parking! As soon as my lease is up in 6 months I already have plans to move to a new location an excellent post. oh and look at the poll results -- 91% say no meters, 9% say yes. it is time we mount an OCCUPY HERKIMER effort and picket and go on a hunger strike until those meters are removed. I nominate Father Cunningham to lead the hunger strike.

as a business owner I would like to see the "nickel and dimer" parking meters removed to pave the way for more visitors to Main Street. Government needs to support local business not hurt it with cheapo parking meters that deter shoppers.

The village should pay any prospective shoppers to park themselves on Main Street, not the other way around... Not that there's anyplace to shop outside of Collis and Brian's. And a night time parking ban in the middle of the summer..? That's a clear case of the Ainsworth and company just not getting it. Herkimer is dead in the water if the petty little local government keeps-up the status-quo, if it's not already beyond redemption already. Nickle-and-diming the few of us here who actually have jobs is not the answer.

The meters in Herkimer are for revenue, period. Parking has not become a problem in the village since most of the meters were broken in 2010. The only place where they might be a good idea is around the county buildings.

Remember this is the same Village Board that doesn't think it is their responsibility to attract new business to the area. They simply can't get past the idea that parking meters generate money and how will they replace that money. There is no way a single resident or business is going to be able to convince them that having flourishing businesses will increase their income. They just don't get that fact. Sad, isn't it? You just can't fix stupid.
