HERKIMER – Burrito Jonz owner John Winter was in police custody Thursday in Acapulco, Mexico, after being robbed at knifepoint of a suitcase containing approximately $30,000 in U.S. cash, according to the U.S. Embassy in Mexico City.

Winter, 59, faces extradition to the U.S. where he will be charged with defrauding the county and village of Herkimer of funding he received to open a Burrito Jonz Tex-Mex eatery on Main Street in Herkimer. The $30,000 in the stolen suitcase is believed to be the funds he received from the county Industrial Development Agency and the village.

Winter was robbed Tuesday afternoon by two masked assailants after leaving a brothel in downtown Acapulco, authorities said. Described as “highly intoxicated,” Winter was taken into custody as a fugitive on a warrant from the U.S. Department of Justice after identifying himself to police as “Carlos Danger,” according to U.S. Embassy spokesman Freak N. Hilarious.

Winter’s attorney, Ben Dover Taxpayers, said his client was in Mexico researching burrito recipes and recruiting Mexican cooks to come to Herkimer and work at Burrito Jonz “to create an authentic and unmatched Mexican culinary experience for the people of Herkimer County.”

“Mr. Winter brought a large sum of cash with him to show to prospective employees in Acapulco and assure them of the lucrative career opportunities that would await them in Herkimer as cooks at the finest Mexican restaurant in Central New York,” said Ben Dover Taxpayers.“Unfortunately he ran afoul of the wrong individuals.”

Burrito Jonz was originally scheduled to open in Herkimer in June 2012.

So, that's what happened to Jon Winters. Was wonderng why that burrito shack never opened in downtown Herkimer. Why has no one called WKTV and asked them to investigate what became of the village's $15,000.00 and the IDA's $15,000.00?? I'm sure Joleen Ferris would jump right on that story if someone would raise a stink about the whole deal and the mystery of what was done with those PUBLIC funds. She should locate Winters first, then knock on his front door and ambush him with questions like how the HELL long DOES it take to get a tiny burrito shack in a small town up and running?????? Just a thought.

Apparently you do too Mr. Winters, with no open restaurant to run and $30,000 in PUBLIC funds to play with. How many years DOES it take to get a restaurant open for business????

Lol, I'm not that dude. Shit I'd be I. Mexico too if I was him. You dolts are the ones that aren't holding your elected officials responsible. Whining on Topix is going to rectify the situation? Hardly.

WHAT a bunch of ingrates. A restaurant owner risks his ASS in a DANGEROUS foreign country trying to find the BEST cooks for you PHILISTINES and when a tragedy occurs you're all hahahahahahahaha.

Mister Winter WILL be cleared of these trumped up charges and WILL return the Valley to reclaim his rightful place as EL REY of Mexican food in New York State !!!!!!

Look for Burrito Jonz to open in APRIL!

YES, but we WILL be CLOSED Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays AND Saturdays because I had a nervous breakdown over all of the criticism, negativity, bad-mouthing and ill-will you Herkimer deadbeats, stoners and assholes in general have directed towards me personally over the last 12 months as I've tried to get my restaurant up and running for all of you! I can only get so much done in one day, one week or one month and your rotten comments which I'm told about often by people who know me and read this waste-of-time-website and report back to me on what's being said here. The restaurant WILL be opening when I finally have a full staff of qualified, competent and dependable employees to rely on. Those are hard to come by in this area apparently and we WON'T be open for business until I can be confident that my PATIENT customers will be served quickly, politely and with a smile from whichever employee of mine is waiting on him or her! SO BE PATIENT--you will not be disappointed.

WKTV is the last to know and report (see all the happenings of Folts Homes) on Herkimer County news. In fact, the OD reported this past week about Folts Homes being taken on by a new operator and WKTV STILL hasn't reported anything. What a joke.
