Jan 21, 2014 Full story: WKTV 76

Flames engulfed a home in Ilion early Tuesday morning at 60 High Street. It's the same home that had a large police presence late Monday night starting around 7 p.m. with spotlights shining on the building.

in the topix herkimer forum ppl were just talking abt how unsafe this area is. and now look what happened again. this area is loaded with violence, no real law enforcement, lame judges that only care about re election, and a laid back attitude toward criminals by the entire system. how long til next time?
So what you're saying is the government sucks? You're preaching to the choir buddy. The only people who will defend any form of American government anymore are those who are pulling their paycheck from it or are the beneficiaries of some form of largesse. We are the embarrassment of the world. If there where drugs involved everyone would have done whatever was necessary to ensure assets were forfeited.

I'm pretty sure The Supreme Court ruled that if you aren't in custody the police have no special requirement to protect you. The slogan "to protect and serve" maybe a nifty piece of propaganda to the drones sleepwalking through their lives, but it is NOT the law and never has been. First responders damn well know this too.

Good thing Bob Vandawalker was there. That pretty much sealed the dead guy's fate. Two special response teams, 5 fire departments, 3 police departments and not only did the guy manage to burn down his house, he died doing it. Brilliant! You would assume the guy must have had land to air missiles? Nope. A couple of large knives. One more time: A couple of large knives. Good thing he didn't have a gun or Ilion would have been obliterated! I wonder if they all made popcorn while the fire burned away?

Learn proper use of the English language before you attempt to make fun of people. Capitalization, apostrophes and periods are your friends. Use them so YOU don't look stupid, stupid.

I just love how these "keystone" cops are trying to make light of their mistakes they made in this situation!!!! And in the paper trying to paint a bad picture of this man and his family..for instance saying comments like " His nephew's troubling behavior " !!! I mean please is it really necessary to bash these poor people to the media, to cover your bumbling tactics??? Also the statement" starting a fire and refusing to come out "???? Um you all where just to chicken sh*t to rescue the poor man!!!! And that my folks is our Ilion Po-Po..more concerned about going to good people's homes during the day to tell them to turn down their music!!

Could have busted front and rear doors down simultaneously and came in with riot shields and tasers. But why bother with that? I'm glad Ilion has so many paid firemen and police. Without that paid force the house would have probably burned to the ground!

It figures. Everyone bashing the cops and the fd if they ran in there and tore the man out people would be saying that they are cowboys hamming it up for the news, and because they didn't they are pussies. When did it become the responsibility of the fire dept to put themselves at unessessary risk to save a lunatic? The trouble is there are probably many more lunatics in ilion ready to snap. Why cant you proactivly weed them out. Someone acting funny lock em' up. Oh thats not fair.....or we can have more molotovs thrown at the cops. I wouldnt have gone in there either. Again unessessary risk is to be avoided. If a fireman or cop did go in there and they got hurt people would be bitching about having to pay for there injuries. Just leave these guys alone we are better off with them. Try anarchy for a while and see what happens . We used to.have asylums for these "troubled" folks. Why is everbody concerned about this wedemeyer fella after the fact?

Firefighters fighting a fire which was started with an accelerant. Dodging Molotov cocktails, fighting a fire in sub zero temperatures, not an easy task. Obviously you don't seem to understand the impact sub zero temperatures have on water. Even mor obvious is that you are clueless.
