FIVE fire departments and the guy still managed to die?!?!
Good thing Bob Vandawalker was there. That pretty much sealed the dead guy's fate. Two special response teams, 5 fire departments, 3 police departments and not only did the guy manage to burn down his house, he died doing it. Brilliant! You would assume the guy must have had land to air missiles? Nope. A couple of large knives. One more time: A couple of large knives. Good thing he didn't have a gun or Ilion would have been obliterated! I wonder if they all made popcorn while the fire burned away?

Your are a complete idiot. You wouldn't begin to spout this stupidity in public. The individual in the house obviously had mental problem s and needed to seek help before it got to this point.

You should seek the same much needed help.

Let's see with this info you must have been a firefighter on the scene and you can't even get that right. What was your contribution? Besides cutting down others, you should have shared you expertise. Oh, that's right, you were probably busy writing your topic post. Let's see, who bitches about everyone?

If a person is really determined to take his/her own life, they will do it regardless of intervention. The agencies responding had to not only try to negotiate a peaceful resolution, but try to keep others and themselves safe. They accomplished that. Prayers for the soul of the person who saw no way out of the situation except his own destruction. Very, very sad.

I just have to thank you Ilion. I read all of the Facebook comments about this situation on the Channel 2 site last night, and wow...if this is what your residents post under their own names, I don't feel so bad about living in Rome anymore. I thought we had a bunch of uneducated, inbred hillbillies...you guys make Rome look like high society.

You hate your police, you hate your FD (really? who hates the FD?), you make plans to meet at the scene of the incident and have a party?!!!??? You're working out who is bringing the punch to a scene where people are in trouble and good men and women are putting themselves in danger to help, and you're planning a barbeque? What a seriously sick bunch of f*ckers you've got out there in Ilion. Try rejoicing in getting an education, a job, and achieving something in your lives instead of rejoicing at the tragedy of others and planning to get sh*t faced and possibly finding your next baby daddy at the scene of the tragedy.

Just watched Chief Parisi's news conference, was that really a smirk to start off the conference ?. What a bumbeling idiot. The residents of Ilion should be ashamed of the so called police chief. He could not even read the sheet of paper he had with him, UNBELIEVABLE !!!!!!!
A person lost their live in this tragedy. Lets do the time line, the police respond at 7pm and 7 hours later there is a fire with an obviously distraught person, did they even think about a shock grenade to end the standoff.

Nice work IPD !!!
just wondering

Well I see all of the faceless, hiding behind your computer experts are out today.
I never knew we had so many unknown experts in Ilion, god we are so lucky to have you Topix posters out there looking out for us.

And tomorrow you'll be a dpw expert, education expert or convenient store clerk expert.

Living the life of a Topix Critic Expert, that would be my goal in life!

What a bunch of damn losers. There's not a one of you that knows crap, only trying to feel important in you own mind.
