Does anyone know of a rspectable babysitter in Herkimer? We just moved to the area and I am teaching at HCCC. Would love to be able to drop my child off on the way to work.

I take it your child is not of school age. You may not be aware that the college has a child care center.

HCCC offers child care at no cost to qualified personnel, including all teachers. This includes a full service day care center that should meet and likely exceed your needs for your little peckerhead of a kid.

The (supposed) fact that you accepted a teaching position at HCCC without inquiring about child care or ascertaining its availability calls into question your intellect and competence as both a teacher and a mother.

Pity the poor students who hope to learn anything from you.

Welcome to the area. HCCC exec is the kind of compassionate human being you now get to live and work around. Maybe you should reconsider your choices.

I am aware that the college has child care services, however I guess I should have clarified. I am looking for someone on the bus route to the elementary school. I have an elderly family member that is willing to help, which is the reason I was not concerned at the time I accepted the position. She is however, now failing in health and I would like to relieve her of this burden. I take offense to the comment posted by HCCC exec about my intellect and competence as a teacher and a mother. I have a PhD in mathematics and moved back to this area to be closer to family who are elderly and in need of help. I am starting to wonder if maybe I have made the wrong decision if the comments by HCCC exec are indeed indicitive of the mentality and compasssion in this village.

no mom, you didn't make a mistake. just like about anywhere else there are groups of people who are meaningless and have no clues about the real world.
trust me , they are in the minority, but because they have no jobs and live in shitholes of their choice with the goverment suppling all of their needs at some one ele's expense, they have plenty of time to talk trash. they tend to bitch and whine about anything.
while loud and noisey they are just bumps in the road. they are the EXCEPTION.
welcome and good luck with your new life.

Thank you Johnny. I will try to stay positive. The majority of people I have met so far seem very friendly and welcoming. I hope the opinions of those on this forum are indicitive of the minority. I was told that I may be able to get some advice on babysitters from others on this site, which is the only reason I posted. I think it might be best if I pursue other avenues.

It's not. Topix gives many without enough self esteem a way to feel big about themselves by putting other people down without fear of repercussion. Please don't judge the good people of this valley by the unfortunate few on Topix.

When my kids went to Saint Francis School, there was a woman named Betsy who used to babysit. She lived just down the road from the church. I don't know if she is still working , but maybe you could check with the school. I heard both good and bad from people who used her, so maybe you should ask for references.

Always get reputable references that aren't family or friends
