If only we could get the rest of Herkimer to pay taxes! We wouldn't be in this mess. Too many tax-exempt entities around here - churches, ARC houses, etc. They hold their church dinners, take business away from the other eateries around here that actually pay taxes, and then get a tax-free ride.

The problem with Herkimer is that there are too many people taking and not enough giving (paying taxes).

Yeah, but there are a lot of people around here who are down on their luck. Church dinners are better than affordable, don't charge taxes and don't ask for tips. If we're not contributing to the food kitchens, we should be. Because most of us are a paycheck away from having to ask for help.

Love the condescending attitude...if we 'think' we have ideas...How about you're willing to listen if we 'have' ideas. We know if we have ideas, we don't just 'think' we do. So what's your idea interim Super? Do you 'think' you have any?

This is just a vicious circle that just keeps going around and around. Someone needs to step up and take care of this problem. Whether they get someone from the outside like a financial advisor or even model ourselves from another school district, they have to start looking into different avenues to take care of this. Obviously the way theyíve been running hasnít been working so now itís time to make a change. Everyone is complaining and not getting anything done. I wish I was qualified to do so! This is so frustrating.
First step is to set up a meeting with the BOE, Administrators, faculty members, and community members asap. Start laying a foundation. Let everyone ask questions and see what the major concerns are. Everyone should be able to state their own opinions. If this community is so concerned come out from behind your computer screens, go to the Board Meetings ask questions and make suggestions. You have to start somewhere.
After that first meeting, then go from there but at least put the wheels in motion.

People did attend meetings, ask questions, pose challenges...but they were ignored or rebuffed. There's bad politics at work here. Something more than courteous protocol is the only thing that'll bring change.

And those who were elected to represent the people of this area either need to step up and take care of their constituents or they need to be replaced with people who will. And FAST!!

But now that the merger didn't go through a new meeting needs to be setup. We all have to agree on what needs to be done and follow through. Someone from the community has to work closely with the BOE and Tutty so we can track of the progress of the issues, make suggestions, and keep the rest of the community informed. "I Think" you said there is already someone who was elected to represent the people of this area? Do you know who that is by any chance?

1) Kill the Ilion/Mohawk merger.

2) Dissolve Mohawk School District/System. Split the students, tax revenue and state aid between Herk, Ilion and Richfield Springs.

You guys were merging on state terms already, you just didn't know it.You have to blame someone. Fact is you lost. Why don't you come forth with some ideas of your own? Because you can sit here for the next two months trying to stick this on one person or you can do something productive. For the record Delude was one vote of a very large majority. It's called democracy.

..and you think 172 votes is a "very large majority". Get real. The parents who know their kids aren't good enough to compete in real competitive sports voted to keep a real mediocre school with lousy academics, just so johnny doesn't sit on the bench. Real shortsighted. If I was on the school board, I would resign and let you have the school system you fought so hard to keep. Delude might only be one vote, but when you entice the main street crowd and college kids with free pizza if the vote goes down, you bring out the 172 votes you needed. That is democracy. It's also up to you folks who had a different vision for the school to step up and share it. As for us, we are so glad it is our last year. Our child will go to college and take courses necessary to get then ready to take real college courses. It will all be about catch-up to compete with kids from good high schools. This vote went down to defeat because of foolish parents who live in the past and try to relive their lives through their children. In the process you have denied your kids a chance for better. You can pat yourselves and each other on the back for defeating the merger. But you might better pray for inspiration. It's going to be a long road for the kids you sold down the river.

I think the majority of the people who voted against it are, 1-parents with kids in the last couple's years in high school so it doesn't matter to them in the future. 2-people who live in the town of herk that don't pay village taxes. I think make town people pay same taxes as village to relieve the tax burden. Then I won't mind paying a 100 dollars more in school taxes. Stop hiring new firemen. Go volunteer. Half of them have other full time jobs as carpenters or plumbers.

Mr Delude did no such thing. That is a lie. We would not have associated ourselves with someone criminal. Can you say the same? As far as your senior child goes "congratulations" we wish him/her the best. You are the atypical "yes" voter. You voted for something that would have no impact on your child. Wow... how courageous, you really went out on the limb there. Would you have voted the same if your child was a underclassmen? If you truly believe Mr Delude has done something illegal. It's your civic duty to bring it to the District Attorneys attention. Instead of blathering on here. Grow a set, if you believe a crime was committed.Report it to the authorities. Me thinks you protest to much. Go to work already.........
