firt of all, jv sports will be put back in if a merger takes place. second of all, a high school team can carry up 45 kids someone told me(football). if a person is good enough to make the team, he will play if not , how good is he? we forget why we have school. its to learn. we better worry about our graduation rate fist. lowset in valley. sports are extra.

A high school team can carry as many players as
they want. There is no rule in NY that limits the
number of players.

old timer ,thanks. wasnt sure. programs will be bigger and better. i dont think the graduating class will be more then 300. thats not a really big school. my sons school graduates 850. but enrollment is dropping. if your in it for the education, its a great deal. if your in it for the sports only, oh well. a great deal for the tax payers for a few years. we cant keep cutting programs. and the tax base in herkimer is gone. what do we do?

Remember, even in a "big" school students still
gst to compete in athletics; however, the comp-
etition is better and players have to work
harder to make the team. Is that good or bad?
Also, big schools tend to offer more sports
so students have more choices.Certainly, your
academic choices will be greater, with more
course offerings and more AP courses. It's
always hard to deal with change, but sometimes
change is necessary.

they should limit the number of incompetent coaches. Oh wait, we have to accept that because they have a union.

Just because a course is labeled "advanced placement" doesn't mean the instruction and learning will be of good quality. A district needs a special kind of teacher to make students in these courses successful. From my experience, if a teacher does not have good results in a Regents course, the AP results tend to be a disaster. The bottom line here is that not every teacher is capable of teaching at this high level. Will the merged districts have enough willing and exceptional teachers to take on this challenge?

If they don't, they need to go out and find some.
The new teacher evaluations should hold teachers
more accountable, and allow districts to weed out
poor teachers. Now it's up to the BOE and the
administration to do so. Taxpayers need to make
sure their BOE and administration do their jobs.
If a community truly wants quality education, they can get it.

Personally, I think too many schools/coaches use the kids to their personal advantage to put them or the school on the map and fill their ego pockets, only to basically forget the kids existed 2 years later.

All you parents make me laugh! Bitching about high school sports like a true jackass! education, determination and hard work is the best thing you could teach these kids! Stop worrying about their sports and teach them proper manners before they are considered the next black thing at HCCC!
