If I can remember correctly when I went HHS Peter Fenner had the longest field goal record and I think he was a quarterback for Colgate. My Lord, I hate this getting old stuff my mind is melting. Does anybody who graduated in '77 remember this?

Vella signed 3 yr contract, then at mini camp was released for health related issue. He and Jimmy Collis kicked ass in high school and college. Good kid too, never in trouble, always humble to adults and kids. My kids always mentioned that. He dominated in high school at 3 sports at a higher level of competition than is out there now.

Moynihan did not have the Vespi brothers to throw to. He also was mediocre at best. Sean McMahon was not a good player, he started his senior year and that was it. His father was coach. Probably Bomber Wood was the best player and Jerry Sullivan.

Yeah, jerry sullivan was good. Moynihan was the quarter back, junior when vespi brothers were seniors. Bomber was before my time and heard he was good, jimmy collis and vella

the Sportello brothers may not have been the best but I watched all 3 play and for the size of them they gave it all. They came from not having a name or money but hung with the best. I loved to see the parents they also gave 100%

the college carrers of Wood and Vella are not compareable. Wood blows him away.

wood was also recruited by division 1 schools but chose RPI for accademics.

Vella was 6'2 1/2 215 lbs with a 4.48 40 who was recruited my U Miami, Arizona St, Maryland and others. Vella signed contract with NFL team and would have made it but for health issue found after mini camp. Back then RPI versus Sprinfield was no comparison in football, maybe now. Not even a close call on this one. My sons played with Vella and saw all others come after.

Wood was recruited by Utep , washington st., cornell, penn st. and many more. he was only 1 of 3 quarterbacks in the country his senior year to pass and rush for over 1000 yds. vella and he both played the same amount of downs in the nfl. zero.
vella had less than 1000 yards his college career and never named to an all american team.
wood had over 5,000 yards in his college career and named to several all american teams. i watched vella play and played with wood. ask their coach.
Mc mahon will tell you wood was the best.

I agree tremendous player. Played against him in Football and baseball. Excellent in baseball also, a catcher who could run and hit with power. And a good student, going to Cornell.

Many great players for sure. Moynihan was a very good player who started off and on for three years as did Sean McMahon. McMahon left high school with more records than anyone else...I guess that makes him a bad player. I vote for Sullivan.

Who really cares. I wish everyone would stop living through their kids and living in the past. How about who has made it to the pros coming from the valley? MLB...no one, NHL...no one, soccer...no one, NFL...no one, NBA...no one, that goes for women too. Get real, how about pushing academics, then maybe our future generations could help fix this country that used to be great, with industries, factories, etc. Grow up you morons!!!
