The guy who rides his (girls) bike around town wearing a Herkimer windbreaker all the time? The one who hangs around at the Neighborhood Diner with the white trash owner(s)?

i can't believe how many people remember who played high school football. i thought only they remembered how great they were. my favorite high school football players are the ones that wait tables, or work in a sneaker store now.

Herkimer has many leaque and section titles and they send players on to college as well. How many Dolgeville kids went on to play college? Oh yeah they never graduated from high school.

John Vella was all state, all league, had great career at Springfield College, signed contract with New England Patriots (only valley player to do so). Led league as a senior in basketball scoring, baseball batting average and foot ball scoring, never done since. I watched him for his whole career.

The definition of best football player has to do with who went the furthest in their career to the top of their field. What better judge of that than the NFL. Only best get invited, only the best sign contracts. If defining the best means the most talented, then you judge by who went the furthest in their careers, not small college, glorified high school football. Simple

so , by your definition it would be bob hughes. he actually made the patriots practice squad. where as vella did not.
Vella was a great athlete. no argument there.
i would say it is Tom Wood, John Sarafin and Vella.
if you ask their High School coach he will say wood. cant go wrong with any of them though.

this thread should have been titled, "who was the fastest wheelbarrow racer in a town where most of the people are missing an arm". all these guys were big fish in a little pond. how much football did any of them play once they left the pond?
