Your vote Tuesday

Once again local voters are stuck deciding between 'The lesser of two evils.' This Tuesday we will decide who is our next mayor and board members. Now I am all for 'new blood' however I would caution anyone who is choosing Tony Brindisi simply because he isn't Mark Ainsworth. No, Howdy Doody is not the breath of fresh air he once was. Yes, our village is dying. Ok, fine, it's dead. Our downtown is a dump, our fire department is a waste of tax dollars, our police department is overpaid and mismanaged and our idea of urban renewal is MacDonald's and Denny's being remodeled. Nevertheless, given the options, lousy as they are, I'm voting for Ainsworth again. Here's why:

In Brindisi's article in the OD he referred to village personnel as 'subordinates.' Only cops and people on power trips use that term as part of their regular vernacular. Brindisi was a cop, and a Herkimer one at that. He's drooling for the chance to do something he never got to do as a 20 year patrolman: be in charge of something. I know Tony, and for him to use the word subordinate worries me - and not just because I know he can't spell it. It's a huge red flag that really tells you what he will be like should he get elected, get that power and of course, become the boss of his old boss, Police Chief Joe Malone. Elect Tony and all village employees will be his 'subordinates' and the rest of us?:'Civilians.'

What kind of business experience does Brindisi have? None. Not one bit. Zip. Nada. Zilch. At least Ainsworth has run a business in the village AND kept it going for many years. Unfortunately the only thing Brindisi has ever run is his mouth.

Education: You can elect a man who went to medical school OR a guy with a 2 year degree in criminal justice from MVCC who couldn't pass the sergeant's exam. The choice seems pretty clear to me. If he can't supervise anyone as a cop, why the hell should he consider himself qualified to oversee an entire municipality?? As a board member he has proven quite clearly that he is capable of absolutely nothing, and I do mean nothing. Writing parking tickets for 20 years does not make you qualified to run a village. Little Falls took Bob Peters out of a DPW truck and put him in the mayor's office, while Ilion took John Stephens out of a fire truck and did the same thing – and both were disasters.

Simply put, it's a conflict of interest. Brindisi only recently retired and already he's running for mayor. He would be in a position to make decisions that would likely be prejudiced and biased toward select individuals. Being chummy with Malone would create an essential 'free for all' for our police department which already can't keep its own officers out of handcuffs. Our officers have killed two people during pursuits in recent years and we are likely to lose millions as a result of this latest pursuit-related crash. The last thing we need is a cop in charge of the cops.

Integrity: I have known Tony for a long time. He talks a good game. He's great at blowing smoke up your a$$. What he is also good at is fabricating stories, refusing to take responsibility for his mistakes and stabbing friends in the back. While these aren't unheard of traits, it isn't the kind of person I want running my village.“It wasn't me.” and “I didn't say that.” should not be commonly heard expressions coming from a mayor's mouth, unless of course you live in Frankfort.

Yes, the pickings are slim. Had anyone worth voting for run against Ainsworth I might well have voted for them. Unfortunately that wasn't the case. What you don't want to do in an election like this is vote in a knee-jerk reaction to your dissatisfaction of our current state of affairs. Sure, it's tempting, but one thing that 99.9% of us have in common is that we are smarter than Tony Brindisi, and with that said, let's get out there Tuesday and put the right combination of folks in office to keep this sinking ship afloat. Burger King needs a makeover.

I don't care how educated or uneducated they all suck. Either way you vote your stuck with Brindisi. Question is do you keep Ainsworth or get rid of him? I will say this Ainsworth is weak any way you cut it. Brindisi has no idea what's going on so it's status quo whoever you elect. Katie's time is done and that dope Markey has got to go. The people in office let this village get this way they can only blame themselves. I guess it's time for change. I would feel more comfortable if Danny Boyle ran for mayor!

This village has gone no- where with the tards running this place now. Its time for change,(if you don't want the STATE to take over). Are the incumbents a perfect fit? May be not but so far the stupid spending and dumb decisions have put us in shambles!! The mayor cant make a decision to save his life. Katie rules the roost in making bad decisions with tony, jimmy and mandy. Markey just sits and shakes his head (yes or no) based on what the others decide. If you disagree with this then you haven't been to a board meeting lately. If you want to become the Town of Herkimer then that fine but know this that's where you are headed.

I don't disagree with you that the current administration has left us in shambles, but if you think Tony Brindisi has the know how to turn this place around you've got another thing coming. A vote for Ainsworth is a vote to keep us circling the drain. Vote for Brindisi and we go down. The OP was right about making village employees mayor. Driving a truck is slightly different than running a village. Brindisi has 0 qualifications for the job. You dont let a garbageman fly your plane or let a store clerk operate on you. Why would you let a cop run your village?

I'm voting Ainsworth for mayor, Weisser for trustee, and Malta for trustee. Keep the brain at the head and put in new blood to power the machine.

Remember, you don't have to vote for the three man team. You can separate the candidates based on who you think is best for Herkimer

Bingo. I kinda like Weisser. He turns out to be a decent trustee and HE could be Ainsworths eventual replacement.

Not true. But believe what you want. Just make sure you vote on Tuesday and you spread the word so everyone knows you can vote for individuals and you don't have to vote for one whole 3-person team or another whole 3-person team.

I'm voting for Mark and Katie..then the other vacancy can go to the next vote getter. You need a maority to stand up for us. that would give us Mark, Katie and Harold. Let Tony continue to sit there feeling self important. He hasn't done anything during his term. lazy is an understatement. Give him Freddie to whisper to. they can hold hands and feel persecuted together.
