Well of course it should be banned. But will that stop it? Does it stop speeding or running red lights? The solution would be technology that disables manual texting in the vehicle. Much like hands free calling, hand free texting is a reality already. Though I have found the current aps to be less than optimal. People view all this phone communications as a right at this point. Just look at how muh texting goes on in a movie theater. Law's with penalties will deter those that are only marginally attached to their mobile devices. Teenagers... Forget about it.

I'm concerned when people feel the government can regulate personal choice better than people can regulate themselves. Here's a reminder of wisdom for you to think about....

"I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves, and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them, but to inform their discretion by education." - Thomas Jefferson, letter to William C. Jarvis, September 28, 1820

<quoted text>
Your mislead in your interpretation of T. Jefferson's letter and the public's ability
to make sound commonsense decisions. Both texting and the use of cell phones while driving needs the same penalties as a DUI. Mandated by the Federal government, not bright bulb ideas by Amerillo's Commissioners
