Wow, the comments on here calling for the outing and firing of the "rat" are incredibly reprehensible. These comments are no doubt made by fellow police officers, which makes it all that more contemptible.

Police officers are supposed to uphold the law and keep the peace. The fact that this is such a cliched statement at this point shows just how far the termites have spread.

The police have become so confrontational and have condoned and supported violence in situations in which it is completely uncalled for to the extent that they have created an "us vs. them" environment. This is evidenced by the overwhelmingly positive support (from citizens) for the recent cop-turned-cop-killer Christopher Dorner (some are going as far as calling him a hero).

But then, one of the few good officers in your department decides enough is enough and makes a possibly career (and life) jeopardizing move to expose the brutality and corruption within his own odious organization, and his fellow officers are calling for his head. Whoever this officer is should be awarded a medal of honor (after all, this is the honorable route to go given the circumstances, but apparently the department, for the most part, is in very short supply of such honor).

I would say that you officers should be ashamed of yourselves, but I highly doubt your massive egos will allow for such a feeling to be experienced. You will continue to justify your illegal and immoral use of force as necessary and stress-induced. If only everyone could go around needlessly assaulting people in times of stress the world would be a much better place (sarcasm, of course).

Also, on a side note, Darden's "rapping" is absolutely atrocious. His lyrical ability is dismal at best and he seems to be unable to properly match his words to the tempo of the beat. Seriously? A cop that raps? I've now seen everything.

The uneducated, cognitively impaired, entitled moronic criminals in this cesspool don't respond to please and thank you. I'd like to see more of this. You're a liberal crybaby. I hope one of these apes does something to you. You'll be hoping for an officer darden.

I'd love for Officer Darden to pull me over one day so I could tell him what I think about him. I wish he wasn't stating the fact he served in the Marines for everyone to compare marines to him. I also served in the Marines and think Darden's actions in that video make him look like a straight up punk. I'd like to challenge Darden to a boxing match where we sell tickets and he can choose what to donate the proceeds too. I'll be keeping up with this thread if anyone knows how to plan out something like this and would like to give me your email so we can talk about it. I do not like your actions Darden, and as a fellow Marine I challenge you to a boxing match. If you really feel as though you're a man there is no way to back away from this. I'm 6'2 248 lbs and I will not hesitate to knock your cowardly ass out in the ring.

Chief Kreins should fire the rat that leaked to the media. I really don't know what the accepted protocol is when a suspect is in a cops face like that. Maybe he should have been tasered? He sure was surprised, laying there looking up at authority! Great job Darden!!
The cop broke the law. There was no threat to the officer or anyone else. The cop had a chance to diffuse the situation and instead resorted to violence as a FIRST RESORT.

Well that's against the law to assault someone.

This cop deserves to be in jail.

The so called "rat" within the department knew the officer broke the law and exposed him. No other explanation. If the pig was fully within the law then this wouldn't be an issue and the video would have never been release.

LOL at the pigs on Topix trying to damage control.

Face it pigs, your boy messed up, and now he must pay.

The courts will decide in the favor of the kid that got punched.

Hi Darden. I didn't say one thing about engaging the younger generations, I could care less about your relationships with young people. That's not what your paid to do. You must either be Darden himself or a troll. At any rate, your post was quite humorous. Please keep them coming.

What are blathering about? This isn't a partisan political issue, you buffoon. I've never in my life felt the need to call the police, and likely never will. Why, if I'm in need of help, would I possibly want to call a person who would only escalate the tension and facilitate more violence by flexing his roid muscles and trying to have a dick-measuring contest?

A what contest? WOW! Sounds to me like you have a crush on the man, talking about his muscles and his dick. Great don't call the police, sounds like you should volunteer since you have a the answers and appear to be able to handle the streets on your own. This whole thing is tired and played out. Over a year and a half old! Sounds like a witch hunt or in your case, a tensioned muscle man dick searching hunt. hugs!

Marine? I doubt it and if you are, then you are really something. How could you throw your brother under the bus that way? When you excepted your eagle globe and anchor that meant you were part of a lifelong brotherhood. I think the officer acted appropriately. I watched it over a few times and it looks like the officer stepped toward him was the first step in an escalation of force. I am a retired officer and never had the privilege to serve as a Marine but I have friends who have. I heard the officer say "I am trying to tell you..." when the punk took two steps and the camera shook a little like the punk may have made contact. The officer took him down and talked to him instead of continuing to hit him. Why as a Marine are you saying the things that you are? What makes you any better than the officer if you as a trained boxer are threatening to beat a man that you don't even know. Better yet a former Marine who stood in defense of our great nation just as you are today. Please if you are a Marine don't continue this way. Also no matter how bad response may be I sincerely thank you for your service.

i thank god every day for our police officers and firefighters. i saw a disturbing comment on the times-herald comments that we are not only losing up close to 20 officers due to retirements, but that over 30 have applied to work somewhere else. stephanie gomes' now infamous pledge to punish our police department will create a situation where entry level officers will stay only long enough to gain experience and then move to a less hostile community.
the safety of the public should be the most important order of the day for any community, but we do not have the political will presently to address it in ours. this is why the civil and economic well-being of our city swings on taking control away from gomes and her crowd trying to shape vallejo to their liking without confronting the rich criminal environment that exists today and will surely get worse. i dread hearing about a heinous crime being committed because the criminals knew police response is slowed to non-existent in far too many cases.
hang in there vallejo, stay safe until we can turn this around.

Those close to retirement are in flux as to what to do. The promised haircut by Gomes will have to be imposed before any decisions are made, certainly employment in another jurisdiction is one of them. You're right about the new hire rookies. They will stay long enough to gain experience then bail. The only certainty in Vallejo is that there will always be an anti-cop component possibly on the city council and no economic progress to speak of while the continue to grow affordable housing and all it brings to a city. I was shocked to see the mission statement for the housing department at the new city web site that proudly proclaims "increasing affordable housing". I could not find that type of reference in any of the surrounding cities similar departments. Vallejo has set in stone it's mission to continue to farm the economically challenged no matter what the consequences. I see there is another budget increase for this effort on the consent calendar for Tuesday. Seems no one on council dares to challenge this continuance of growing the social misfit inventory for fear of alienating votes. But then too, you have a council member that partakes of the subsidized housing effort as a wealth building strategy. Your town is absolutely doomed, a race to the bottom and you're almost there.

"We"? With a we numbering about 20 misguided idiots who follow Sam Kurshan like he is Jesus Christ, I suggest you stop promising people that you can fix us in your lifetime or ours. Only thing that is going to fix Vallejo is to make it more business friendly so we can get the revenue generated to be able to hire more cops and lower the crime rate. Want to fix Vallejo? Stop following the village idiot who's sole motivation is fueled by personal vendetta and find common ground to work together with the powers to be. These problems were caused by city council members, mayors, and union leadership that had no foresight to plan for the future in an era that the city was flush with revenue generated by a naval shipyard that is now closed.
