I can't imagine forcing a child to visit with someone they don't like, or want to be with. I would never do that to my child and no court could ever force me to do it! It's obvious this mother used the Dr. Phil Show to get her son's story out there, and for that you've got to give her credit, especially because she said in the article that she didn't care how she came off. The bottom line is, there's a child involved here who is 13 years * his well-being is of the utter most importance. If he doesn't like the grandmother, he shouldn't be forced to spend time with her. There is obviously a reason or reasons Koal doesn't like this woman and we're all going to find out tomorrow.

Everybody come back to this message board tomorrow and voice opinions after the show, and after we have all the details. It will be interesting to see if we agree, or disagree with Koal's mother.

Brian, Lisa and Koal, we love you all and are here for whatever we can do to help. Rita...shame on you. Get your own life and stop messing with them. I agree with the woman that said " No court could make me force my child to spend the night with anyone else", it's the parents decision and unless there is some danger to the child, then the grandparents need to realize that they had their chances to raise kids and some of them just plain blew it. but it really doesn't matter why Rita is doing this, the fact is, Brian and Lisa are the parents of Koal....they decide.

02/21 Family Court Battles

Now just a question,
Why do grandparents have "Right" to their grandchildren ? Isn't and
From Dr. Phil's website messageboard:

shouldn't it be up to a child's PARENTS who a child has contact with ?
In some cases the children are much better off, remember Saving Grace, WITHOUT them, in some cases its wrong to keep them away (like petty bickering.)
And at thirteen, isn't he old enough to CHOOSE whether or not he wants to see Grandma ?
I'm guessing the poor kid just wants these so called adults to GROW THE HELL UP.
Well wait and see I guess, this one should be interesting, but I will bet the boy will be acting more mature than any of the adults.

I happened to be in the audience for this show. Quite interesting and sometimes rather funny. A must see!

First of all the child is clearly of age to make some decisions of his own. If he doesn't want to visit why force him to. If you leave him alone and not pressure him he may decide he wants to visit with grandma one day. Is this the only grandchild? and what did grandma do that makes the child not want to visit. Sometimes people just don't want to be bothered. Why don't grandma be forced to visit with someone that she doesn't want to visit with, sometimes if people are put in the same situation that they are trying to put someone else in they can understand it better.

That old lady makes me want hurt her. Whatever rights she may have it does not seem that she should have the right to use the court system to abuse the crap out of her daughter over her grandson.

I don't care if the mom isn't an angel, she is still the mother and it was painfully obvious that Rita was either outright lying or at very least bending the heck out the truth pretty much every time she opened her mouth.

Can we get her a private room with Jeffrey Dahmer?

Rita is an evil person! I know first hand how she works the system and will stop at nothing to ruin peoples lives. No one in her family, including myself, wants anything to do with her. She mentioned on the show that it stemmed from Lisa and she is the reason she has other relationship problems with her family. That is simply not the case. She hasnt spoke to her mother in years, other than fighting. And is in court now, suing her own mother! Check out Solano County Court Connect and search Ritas last name....all her court battles for the public to see!

I know the Wrights and I know Rita. Rita lied throughout the entire show. I know things that didn't come up in the show, because it really has nothing to do with Koal, which is a good thing. Rita, you are shameful. You said " I want my rights, and I'm going to fight for them". Even if it creats chaos in Koals life huh? That is low class trailer park. You're make up and fancy cars and clothes and houses that you've had throughout the years can't mask your B.S. Remember the trip to the hospitol in the 1980's for a " back " injury....I do!! Be careful, you never know who is lurking on the sidelines with dirt!

Having watched the show, I can say it was obvious Rita the grandmother was lying. It was all about her. She seems to want to stop at nothing to destroy her daughter and disrupt her grandchild's life. She kept repeating that everyone was confused about their memories, except for her. And no one in their right mind believes a woman would leave all that she has for a boy who is 18, with nothing to offer WITHOUT having slept with him first. In this case, sex is the only thing this young man had to offer. You don't leave your whole life to be with a kid without taking him for a test run first. Rita was obviously lying about not cheating on her husband, she was sleeping with the daugher's boyfriend before she made the decision to leave and that is a no brainer! Lying about the boy not being her daughter's boyfriend and that the boy was just a crush. Please! Someone needs to let Rita know that raising a child doesn't end when they turn 14. She kept talking about how she raised her daughter, etc. She didn't raise her daughter all the way, which is to age 18 or 22 depending on whether they attend college or not. You could tell by the look on the daughter's face that the mother was lying and I think the studio audience saw the same thing. Rita came off as selfish, jealous and vindictive. The daughter is clearly affected by the choices this so-called mother made throughout her selfish life. I don't blame the mother for wanting to keep her son away from the very person who is hell bent on ruining her life. As a mom it's your job to protect your child and if I was the daughter, I would do the exact same thing, and that's keep my child as far away from her looney mother as possible!
