*** Keep going...
The owner, Marshall McAdams is a retired Vet who served his country in Vietnam, worked many years at GE until he recently retired and has taken care of the children of our county for over 20 years now, including myself. Even though Marshall has no biological children; I call him dad and he calls me daughter, my children call him grandpa. He has filled family roles no one else could, and not just within my family either but for many. He is an outstanding role model for this entire community. Marshall does not smoke cigarettes, he does not drink, he does not do drugs, and he does not promote violence. However, he does instill respect along with many other fantastic characteristics as best he can, taking into consideration he only really has an influence on most of said children for possibly 10 hours each week. He has offered and given little jobs to many less fortunate children of our community so that they could still have fun, skate, stay off the streets and out of trouble; all the while not paying a dime for admission. Now that lowers the price to free babysitting doesn't it! Even though countless number of these children has stolen from him, Marshall remains strong with a heart of gold. He is teaching children things such as, how to work a cash register, prepare and serve snacks from the snack bar, and how to properly handle money exchange. All of which are life lessons in accountability and responsibility. He also allows them to be floor guards; teaching them to be responsible for their own safety as well as the safety of those around them and how important the discipline of following rules truly is. HE IS ONE MAN, making a difference for so many!!!

So tell me, why does the Roller Dome get a bad rep??? No wait, I will tell you! This facility gets a bad rep because there are parents and guardians that do not pay any mind to their children!
OMG, kids smoke outside at the Roller Dome? Yes, they absolutely do, even though this is a smoke free facility! Again, Marshall does not smoke, nor does he condone it. Unfortunately this is a public facility, just like Wal-mart! Would you drop your child off at Wal-mart for several hours just to run amuck??? Of course not, Wal-mart would call law enforcement or DCS! Neither Marshall nor any other average civilian can force anyone, not even a child to remain inside; that is a parent’s job. The next time you see a child smoking a cigarette, no matter where it is, shouldn’t the question really be….“Where is that child’s parent?”
If your child loves to skate, them why would you not want to be there at least watching them? If the child was the towns Basketball star would you be watching the game?
Why would you not want to take part in something that puts a smile on their face? Let me guess.. You can't skate? Well, how many things did your child not know how to do, but it was important to you so you forced them to learn it? As a parent, it won't kill you to be with your child enjoying and watching, even if you don't want to even try to skate.
Moving on! It's a nice place to drop your kid off so you don't have to be mom or dad for a few hours? Yet you expect them to be tickled pink that they are your child??? Something else is more important during this time frame? What is truly more important than your own child and bonding with them? You mean to tell me that there are demands set on these children for successful interaction, love and respect to be given to adults but the same is not given in advance or return to show them how it works.... Fabulous! Now we all know where they get that mentality from, which I am sure will most definitely grace the next generation of our community!

Last and worst bad rep reason for this rant... You think it's cool to drop your child off and then come back at 11:20 even though it closes at 11 and you’re the parent who is half off their rocker!!! I will be the first one to admit that I have escorted parents and children alike out the door, called the law for alcohol or suspected drug use. However, Marshall is an amazing man, dad and friend. The Roller Dome is his ♥ and life, the children of this community is part of him and he is part of them. Sometimes it is clear that he loves these children more than their own parents do. HOWEVER, he is ONE MAN, MAKING A DIFFERENCE! Apparently some people can’t seem to handle one or two kids (even if they are your own) for a few hours on Friday or Saturday night, yet he handles 100's with TLC on an average weekend, without your help or support! So the next time you want to talk about a facility in our community... Pick one that actually has no worth! Additionally, if you are not willing to be part of the solution with the youth in our community, YOU ARE PART OF THE PROBLEM!
HAVE A GREAT DAY!

I used to have so much fun there growing up. I wanted skates to bad but my family couldn't afford them. Marshall let me pick my very own skates and wheels and let me pay small amounts each week. He was always a very nice guy. I was probably about 12 when going and I never felt uncomfortable around him. He let me in free many times because I didn't have the money to pay, I would help him with small task in return. It's not his fault that this kids run around without their parents. Any parent just willing to drop their child off there for hours unsupervised is asking for it. Marshall is not responsible for that. Lady that's blaming Marshall for her daughter having no morals is just wrong. I think everyone knows that. It's awful to call him a pervert and things. He absolutely is not and this kind of thing is what causes people to do irrational things and be depressed. He is a good guy and does not deserve this!

I think the City of Scottsburg should help fix the place up some, if nothing else, it's been around long enough to be named somekind of landmark place.

Marshall is a great guy and its not his job to make sure your children are not outside smoking. He's not their babysitter. that's your responsibility as a parent.

Granted the skating rink looks a wore down, but just because it doesn't look all that great doesn't mean that the kids don't have fun there. It could use a face lift & a little TLC. I've rented it out on numerous occasions for my daughter's birthday party. I've even taken my daughter there to skate on the weekend a time or two. Of course I stayed with my daughter while she skated. I do not agree with dropping you kid off for hours on end. I am responsible for my daughter, no one else. You cannot blame someone else for the actions of your child. If you were there to watch over them as a parent should, then you wouldn't have that problem to begin with. As for Marshall, he is a nice man with a heart of gold. But he's just one man, he can't can't run his business & keep eyes on every child at once. Also, it's not his job to babysit! If you have a child, then BE THEIR PARENT, don't drop them off for someone else to take care of!
