One other thing would the youth league pads and uniforms fit high school players?
Our county league has Varsity grade equipment. We do have a Varsity team now. We follow the IHSAA rules and the kids love it. We have great coaches and we have offered to loan all of our Varisty grade helmets and other equipment to the school. We have offered to form a booster club to generate funds to cover the additional costs. There was an entire presentation SCYFL did for the school board at their request, twice.
In Indiana a coach can be a volunteer for up to 5 years for football. A football coach's stipend (it's not a salary) is usually in between 3,000-8,000 depending on experience, etc. Obviously you do not have a son or daughter that loves football. All we want is the school's support of a team. When that is all your child dreams about and wants to do in his/her life why should this be denied? My child is worth it and deserves to play. When you say to take my child elsewhere, who do you think you are hurting....the kids that are still at SCSD2. Each child that leaves takes money away from our district. Somewhere in the amount of $5,500 per student. If that student goes don't you think their siblings will also go? Can our district really afford to lose thousands of dollars? I know for a fact there are several families taking their children elsewhere next year.
It is time to quit living in the past and bringing up the fact SCSD2 once had football. You can't judge what will happen on what happened over 20 years ago. Football is now the number one sport in the world. Indiana did not have the Colts back then either. Football has grown and I believe it could help generate funds for the school district that will in turn help other sports.
Our children are our future and deserve every chance they can get to become better leaders. Football helps instill morals and values.

....The school board is stuck with your problem? What problem? Kids who want to be involved? Kids who want to play a sport they love? How is that a problem? You ignorant, arrogant clod. How dare you. The county league is self-sufficient and has offered to LEND proper equipment to a high school program. Go to the League website and contact any board member if you are interested in hearing the facts.

Kids need something to do around here and the community to look at other areas like Seymour and Madison they have football teams and aloof people support hem maybe that's what this place lacks support! Maybe if it gave kids something extra to pick from they would be more likely to stay out of trouble and focus making themselves something! U can tell the ones who say no are not worried what the kids may want

Glad to hear of the league getting new board members given the fact the current board members arent playing for the league anymore, and it seems their focus is elsewhere, not that i can blame them.

Nobody supported football when we had it. What makes you think they would now? Just a money pit for our cash strapped school.....

Do you realize they made 800 dollars just in admission our last game? not counting concessions and stuff? Money Pit.. Maybe you should come check out the field when we have our games to see the support we have now. Just because there wasnt support back then, doesnt mean its not here now. Cant live in the past! Back then The COLTS werent even big or around.. I bet your a Colts fan too huh..
Money strapped school.. Lets see, if you have read the previous post you would see the league offered to help the school out with that situation. So there is no excuse, it would also allow the band that is so precious to play more and cheerleaders etc... Did you know that football pays for the other atlethics in other schools? Not to mention the school that is so strapped for cash is loosing more cash by loosing students who go to other schools to play football..

Scottsburg is not as it was 30+ years ago, so the team then never won, then there was no fans and so on but our town has grown and changed over the last thirty years. Those kids that played then are not the same kids that would play now. There isn't a lot for kids to do here so they end up becoming drunks or drug abusers. Personally I would LOVE to see football back in Scottsburg! It would maybe bring some of our kids back that are going to other counties for football, and as far as money goes, there are so many things that can be done to fix that. And I believe if football was here now, those stands would be filled at each and every game because like I said our town has grown and we have a lot of football fans in Scottsburg that would support our team! I think it should at least be tried!!!! How can people say it would fail if our kids aren't given a chance. This is not 1978 and this town is nothing like it was then.

whats a high school without football? well, if you ask me it lacks a key part of its school spirit. when i was in school, all there was to take pride in was our cheerleaders and band....really? during my junior year i moved to a different school due to a re-station in my father's work, the school i went to had a football team, and to see the amount of support for those boys was amazing, the twon took great pride in their team, it was like being in one of those football towns you see in movies. my little brother was the center for that team and his popularity went up drastically, which was great to see happen for my sibling who had low self esteem. i think football should be brought back into our schools, it gives the boys and town something to take great pride in, rather than girls in short skirts and someone tooting a horn.

I hope that when this vote for football comes to our community, I pray the vote for football has the majority. It will probably be too late for my children when this happens, but i see the smaller elementary children that play and it would be great for them.

Why do you say that? Why are people not wanted there to be football back in Scottsburg? It would be great! And as I and others have said, this isn't back then, times have changed and our town has changed! I think it would be AWESOME :) Think of those boys who play for the Scott county thunder, when they finish middle school, no more football for them. Very unfair! The thunder gets all kinds of support and I believe a high school team would get just as much support if not more! I think the board needs to quit making excuses and give our kids something worth doing.

I read these comments and I have to wonder what price is too much to save a child? Some of these kids need structure on the field because that is the only place they get it. Some of the kids have nothing else to look forward to. I have been involved with this league since it was formed in one capacity or another. Thank God to the men and women that formed this league and brought football to Scott County. We need it back in the school,

My son played for Thunder for eight years and now he is in High school. He misses playing so very much. We frequently go to Brownstown, Salem and Madison games. It makes him sad. He always says, "Can you imagine playing under the Friday night lights? It must be awesome. These guys don't know how lucky they are." These young men need to be part of a team. It makes them grow into responsible individuals. Its more than just a sport. It builds character, trust, and friendship. We have considered transferring him as well.
I wish the school and community leaders would just go to an adjoining community and look into the stands. Its amazing how everyone is supporting the team, cheerleaders, and band members. The students in Scottsburg deserve these experiences. It may save some of them from going down the wrong paths.

I read these comments an think wow that would be great to have high school football. It would also be great to have class sizes of 15 or less, laptops and ipads sitting on every desk and enrichment classes for every student for free. Bottom line is funding!!! Get the extra funds via the voting process and lets all go watch some Friday night football!!!
