people really do need to look at the other side of the picture...because his children will eventually (many years down the road) find out what happened and that is probably bad enough for him (gilbert) in itself. now...he didn't need to be behind the wheel and as for the other person that was with him i have no clue about but was that person drinking also? it was his irresponsiblity, he has to live with his actions. he may not have. meant to do it, but he was the one who chose to drive while intoxicated. and he would more than likely never willing take a persons life. i feel for you also amy, i imagine you are going through hell with having to explain to the children what is going on. i wouldn't want to be in your shoes. i pray you find a way to comfort those children because they are just to little to understand the severity of the situation right now.
thank for being so polite this is gonna be a long road for all involved thank you for the prayers.sherry

We as the other family involved are very hurt for what has gone on my heart and prayers go out to all the family and friends of Mr Shepard and those who think that it was our fault that my brother did this it was Gilbert that did this an now all family and friends have to pay for it so please find it in your heart to pray for everyone this has effected. Thank you And God bless all andhold all of us close and help everyone get through this terrible tragedy. Sherry
Only prayer your brother will be getting from me is that he gets a good long prison term this time. Had he been locked up from those other damn drunk driving CRIMES, Dean never would have been murdered! Hope you like that prayer, if not go start your own forum on here asking for sympathy for your killer brother. GET OFF OF THIS ONE!!!

No one is asking for a pity party we are asking for prayers for all involved how or what you pray for is between you and God the only thing I have asked for is prayers for everyone we are all victims from both sides of the families from what I have read Mr Shepard was known and loved by many we our family is praying for that family aswell as our own I do agree even though Gilbert is my brother that he should be punished an yes it does hurt to know that it was my brother that took a life but please you don't have to pray for him but look at the whole picture and see that we are all victims and the only way any of us will get through this is with God's help all any of us should do is pray for the ones left behind and that does include us.my prayers all with everyone including the ones who has made this site a place for arguing may God bless and help us get through this. just got back from walmart I went to see the in memory pic they have as you enter the store. We talked a few times he was one of a kind. Sad situation for everyone. Wish it could have been different. I just dont know what to say . everyone lost.your hearts must be breaking also. Mr Shepard wouldnt want the argueing. I suppose after a while the anger will subside.Just hope everyone finds some comfort , some way , some how. Only God knows. our condolences to everyone.

When my wife and I walked into Walmart and seen the poster board with Dean's picture and the information that he had passed, we stopped and hugged one another. We both had tears in our eyes, she cried. We all use to "bug" with Dean coming and going. He was the face of Walmart. I use to razz him that I had to pay to flirt with the ladies such as he did and he got paid for it. Then ask him,"Are you really gonna cash that check?" "Don't you feel guilty?" Sure going to miss you Dean. R.I.P. our little buddy.

<quoted text>Have you NOT noticed that this topix is all about a wonderful man who was taken out by a drunk driver. Your EX is an adult and should have thought like an adult. I cant seem to wrap my head around givin this man any kind of sympathy. He knew he was taking a chance on drinking and driving. Please its a cold slap in the face. This site is in memory of a loving respectful hard working man. Please for those ho are grieving for this loss , start another page for the man who took him out. I wish you would have stayed off here. LOOK at the comments , they are all directed about this wonderful man and then you come to have your say. Its a slap in the face. If you start another topic about your loved one , mabey , just mabey he might get some sympathy but I highly doubt it. We are not thinking about the man who took him out . We are thinking about our wonderful friend. Cold hard facts. THIS TERRIBLE TRAGIC ACT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED(how could you possibly shift any blame on the person who didnt take the keys) he should not have keys to begin with. with a tiny bit of thought. He should have been home drinking to his hearts content. If he was such a wonderful father he should have been thinking, "if" I drink and drive I might harm an innocent person) NOW, "if" he was a working man and had a good work record those children will be taken care of money wise ( but their emotional support is gonna have to be placed on you) it is what it is. Now I dont feel like argueing this case on this site for our dear friend. its not the place to go back and forth. Please someone start a page for the man who "ACCIDENTLY" KILLED HIM. Let this page be a "In Memory ". I wish your comments could be erased so those who have nice memories of our friend can carry on with the condolences its meant to be for.
NO excuses!!! YOu know when you drink alcohol you should not drive at all.... I've been so dam drunk in the past where i didn't know my name and yet I still had the god dam sense enough to know NOT to drive! even after 1 drink. So don't hand any of us the excuse the person who let him drive. The god dam selfish bastard knew not to drive but was selfish enough to do it any way causing the death of someone else.... Get your god dam head out of your inbred ass!

I am the mother of Gilbert Mullis' children & I want to say that I am terribly sorry for this tragic accident & I can't even express how sorry I am to the victim's family! No one should ever have to go through this. I am not trying to make any excuses for Gilbert's actions because there are none, but he is NOT this bad guy that everyone is making him out to be! It was a tragic ACCIDENT! He would NEVER hurt anyone intentionally & he was a good father to his children & they are suffering as well!! They are 8 & 10 & they now have to grow up without their dad around.Gilbert does have a drinking problem & he was going to alcohol classes & he was doing really well until he got messed up with a certain person there in Salem. No there was no one that forced him to drive, but I feel like this person he was with should be held in some way responsible for letting him drive..why didn't she take his keys from him?? Thats what I would've done! Gilbert does need to pay the consequences of drinking & driving, but he does need to recieve help as well. He has to pay for this the rest of his life by knowing he took such a wonderful, innocent life!! We all need to pray for both families involved & not throw judgement on people. There are also 2 innocent young children involved that have to deal with this as well as the victim's family!!
what audacity you have! how dare you sit there and say that the blame should be on the guy who " let him drive"
You are an idiot!!! RUDE AND CRUDE

Mr. Mullis received a 24 year jail sentence for Dean's death. Earliest chance of parole is to be in 10 years. Thank god that loser is FINALLY locked up and OFF of the road. Took long enough!!! Monroe County should be ashamed of themselves for letting this go so far.

That is just not good enough!!! the Son of a bitchhhh Mullis should have received 5 consecutive Life sentences! This way It would assure he would never be released from Jail! He would be eligible for parole in say 90 years but by that time he would be dead and buried!

Rest In Peace Mr. Shepherd. I only met you once and we had a long talk at your post in Wal-Mart. You left a loving impression on me even though I only had that one conversation with you. When I heard about your passing on the news I was so sad. You talked about your family that evening...about your sons. You reminded me of my dearly departed dad. God has yet another Angel with him in Heaven. We here on Earth will have to try to make sense of this tragic, senseless loss.
Something that always helps me a bit is this :
"Lean not on your own understanding, but, on God's. The Will of God will never lead you, where the Grace of God cannot keep you."
God Bless You Mr. Shepherd and God Bless your family.

Grieve for Mr. Walmart Greeter, but don't waste a tear for Dean Shepherd. I knew him for 25 years. The things you don't know would make you bite your hand and curse him, not Gilbert or his family.

That louse- and forgive me lice- managed to live 82 years on this precious planet.

It's breathing easier now.

I'm talking about setting the record straight.

In a way he was a drunk driver who smashed the hearts of many people. Only he wasn't drunk.

I could not in good conscience allow his deception to go unchecked.

The greater Heads Up, unless you know someone well, you can enjoy them, but suspend your belief in them. In their private life, they may be pulling the wings off flies for fun.

Tips Hat to Mickey Mouse.
