We had been visited Bethany Beach for years, spring and fall, out of season. Loved it, looked forward to the quiet and beauty of the beach. It wasn't necessary to swim in the ocean, just walk along it either on the boardwalk or along the shore. My husband and I just returned for a planned week at Bethany Beach, Having been unable to return for several years, we were so anxious to return and were incredibly sad to find the beach had been completely destroyed apparently by the federal government, in order to 'save' it. We were unable to see the ocean, walk along it nor see it from even the boardwalk. After several days of disappointment, we left after several days instead of staying the full week. I understand the government will not 'correct' what they have done regardless of what residents think....something that appears to be a habit of our 'representational' government these days. We won't be able to return given the sad destruction of what once represented to us a wonderful refuge for us.

Quit complaining. Would you rather have the homes destroyed by the massive storms we have had or do you just care to SEE the ocean, take a walk on the beach and see all the ocean you want.

You didn't "see" the beach because of the replenishment project. You most certainly could have walked on the beach. Maybe if you hadn't been lazy enough to walk over the dune and onto the beach, you would have enjoyed the ocean. Best bet for you (and people like you), stay the hell home. It's tourist like yourselves that cause congestion, pollution and problems for those of us that live in Bethany Beach. The more tourons that invade our once pristine area, the more we will become beligerent and unwelcoming. Aren't there plenty of beaches in New York and New Jersey where you can go and destroy them more?

So what if they could not "Sea" the Ocean from where they were staying. Tourists , though annoyng at times, come and go like the tide. As a life long resident of this area, I simply avoid those conjested times on the roadways when the out of towners arrive. How many of those that complain about tourists are actually From this area??? And did any of you ever go on vacation to another spot in the world where You were a "visitor? I am glad to pay Very low property taxes and have the ability to enjoy the beach year round.....those from out of the area bring valuable dollars to the area to help us All!

While I admit I miss the days of walking along the boardwalk and scoping out the hotties laying on the beach below me, the new dune has already saved the town from massive damage. A storm in 2008 breached the dune in several places, yet protected the town. Without the dune, the boardwalk, bandstand and several ocean-front building would have been damaged or destroyed. Perhaps we, as a society, need to shed some of the "it's all about me" mentality and recognize that sometimes the greater good is served by those things that annoy us a little bit.

Beach Lover is right. How many more times would storms damage the beach and town before the repair money dries up? Without the draw of the beach, bandstand, and boardwalk, no tourists- no tourists, no money- no money, taxes go up and/or services go down. You want to see loud and crowd, go south to OC. This is a great, quiet town where you can bike anywhere with the fear of getting hit, walk around town without roaming bands of teens bothering you and being loud, and not having to explain what the suggestive t-shirt means to your little ones.
