DELAWARE: State votes to end gay bias

Full story: www.delmarvanow.com

Gays and lesbians in Delaware will have legal protection from discrimination under a bill that passed the General Assembly late Wednesday night, more than a decade after supporters started fighting for it. The House chamber erupted in applause, cheers and hugs when representatives passed the measure shortly after 8:30 p.m. An hour earlier, the Senate -- where previous versions of the legislation always were killed -- passed the same bill after a three-hour debate. The bill now goes to Gov. Jack Markell for his signature. Rep. Pete Schwartzkopf, who helped push the bill through the House, said Markell has expressed support for it.

My thanks to the Legislature of Delaware. I am very proud as a former resident of "The First State" that you have finally made it clear that discrimination, especially based on "religious freedom", is a violation of the equal protection clause under this nations Constitution.

For those who claimed their religious beliefs and freedoms were being undermined, I say that using God as a shield to do evil to a fellow human being and U.S. Citizen is highly offensive and a disgraceful character flaw.

Delawareans. One thing that is significant about this is that Delaware has very favorable laws for businesses. Most national corporations incorporated in Delaware, so it could be argued that these companies are now covered under the State's non discrimination law.

I once had a discrimination grievance with a company I worked for, and since it did business in one of the counties in Maryland which had non discrimination laws, I was able to file a complaint with that county's Human Rights Commission. The company tried to claim that the Commission had no jurisdiction, but they lost that argument. The company settled with me shortly after the Commission issued it's findings.

please allow me to introduce myself. I am a person who was discriminated against in housing, employment and equal protection under the law (marriage rights) simply because I am a homosexual.
Now you know someone besides a black person who has faced discrimination for most of their life.

how do people know you're gay? they can look at me and see i'm black, the only way they would know you were gay is if you told them. you should be able to live where you want to live, eat where you want to eat and work where you want to work.

I'm glad you agree. And I hope you understand that people of certain races do not hold the monopoly on being discriminated against.
To compare who had it worse is rather pointless when we are discussing what is just and right. Did the Irish have it worse than the Jews or Italians? Did Latinos from Mexico have it worse than Cubans or Puerto Ricans? Did the Apache have it worse than the Iroquois?

When our current president was born it was illegal in 33 states for your brother or sister to marry into my family. Today it is illegal for me to marry the person my church will marry me to in the State I reside.

State of the States: Anti-Discrimination Laws in the US

April 7, 2009 by Bryan

We figured it would be a good time to show the status of anti-discrimination laws across the U.S., including those passed, in process and those killed by a legislature.

13 states and the District of Columbia currently have laws on the books banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Those states include: Minnesota; Rhode Island; New Mexico; California; District of Columbia; Illinois; Maine; Hawaii; New Jersey; Washington; Iowa; Oregon; Vermont; Colorado

7 states have laws banning discrimination based on sexual orientation only.

Those states include: Wisconsin; Massachusetts; Connecticut; New Hampshire; Nevada; Maryland; New York
http://blog.gayrightswatch.com/2009/04/state-...

75% of the Fortune 500 have policies that protect employment rights regardless of sex, race, religion, national origin, disability, age and sexual orientation.

Daily Horoscope for December 20

Aquarius

This is another day when financial matters cause trouble, as Mars reverses in your seventh house. What started off as a minor niggle with a partner or an opponent yesterday could now escalate into a full-blown row, but at least this will give you the chance to get certain things out into the open. Legal issues from the past may become ugly. If you're pointing the finger of blame at someone, don't get so heated that you accuse them of everything under the sun.
