My wife went to get us a pizza at Jet's the other day and she said they had a sign saying "Now accepting EBT." For those that don't know, that is food stamps, but wtf? What's next, 40oz, cigs, pretty soon drug dealers will be able to accept it. Yes I know pizza is food for any person that has a smart remark. I just don't believe it should be used for things like that. Going out to eat or ordering delivery, in my eyes that is a luxury, nothing that they need to survive. With the studies showing the obesity rate increasing and a lot of them are these people that sit back and draw food stamps, welfare, whatever you want to call it, not working, getting fatter by the second, now you want to allow them to order pizza from these places. Let me guess, they can leave a tip on that EBT card too which will lead to someone making up a scam and charging peoples EBT card for pizza, then splitting the cash with them.

Are you serious? Looks like I am done eating Jet's. Is this something that is happening with all fast food places or is this just with Jet's?

You have got to be kidding me. I'm like the last poster, is this a trend we are all about to start seeing and if so, where in the hell can we fight it?

This reminds me of a case where the woman argued with a gas station attendant because she wanted to use her food stamps to buy energy drinks and the cashier refused to sell it to her. It turned in to a bigger issue because according to the law, anything that supposedly has a nutritional label on it is considered food and can be purchased with food stamps. This is the kind of unneccesary spending that needs to stop. I think they all should be drug tested and I honestly think they should be able to monitor what these people are buying. If it comes back they are buying energy drinks and ordering out pizza, drop the food stamps. Sorry, I know I sound a little emotional right now but it bothers me so much because I see millions of people starving, struggling to make ends meet, then you have these freaking freeloaders that are out just living it up.

I am not saying this will help but I am contacting whomever I need to in order to find out if this is legal. I could definitely see a scam coming out of this one. Someone's brother starts working at Jet's, the sister comes in with her "order", him ring it up, tip and all, and split the money at a later time, give her an empty box to make it look like she is walking out with something, that's it.

WTF is wrong with our country? Every time I see those protests in the middle east I tell my spouse I wonder how long it will be before it gets that bad here. I love my country and the freedoms I have but at the same time that love seems to fade a little more each day.

Listen, I don't care if you are Obama, it still isn't right. On average a large pizza costs around 10-15 dollars, do you agree. And that is to feed your kids for one night, which if you have four, I am sure it takes more than one pizza. Okay, take that same 10-15 dollars or double it if you are buying two, go buy white bread, ham, bologna, cheese, and you have lunch for a whole week. That is my point. I don't care who you lost your job to. This post isn't about that, it is about being able to use food stamps to order fast food which is ridiculous.

Stop putting the blame on other people for your failures in life. All companies had to get rid of workers, not for Mexicans to come in and take their place but because they could no longer afford to pay their salaries. You bitch about illegals, I will bitch about this, deal.

And if you would look it has nothing to do with Papa Murphy, they said they went to Jet's pizza, different establishment and the food is cooked.

Aren't there more important things in life to bark about than someone getting pizza on a FOOD card?? What's the difference if you go to Kroger and get the pizza from the frozen section and pay for it through cash, credit or a debit card??

Regardless of what type of food it is, if it's food, you should be able to buy what you want on the EBT card. I am a Physician and you can gain a lot of weight if you eat a lot of veggies and fruits. It's all about moderation and exercise with ANY food that you decide to eat.

We should all be thankful the state even gives us that privilege to have the EBT card when we are in a time of need. We are all people regardless of where we come from. There will ALWAYS be users and abusers in every aspect in life so just focus on what you can do better for YOUR FAMILY!!!

Good luck to all on this card.

Let me ask you this, who got themself in that position? I understand he lost his job but he has four kids. I have one kid and that is hard enough financially so my wife and I have put off having another until we are a little more stable. Why is that so hard for people to do? I hear couple after couple say oh I want to have them all now so they will be close to the same age or I would rather have them all now and get it out of the way, there are many reasons I have heard for not waiting. You know what else, almost every couple that went forward with that idea, is now coming back and talking to us saying how much they regretted their decision on having them back to back to back and asking us for advice. Uh, we aren't the ones that had to have kids right away so why are you asking us, I know that sounds harsh but reality is harsh sometimes.

We all end up where we are from decisions that we have made. I know homeless people don't want to be homeless, but they made a choice at some point in their life that led to that, rather it be drugs, alcohol, unplanned pregnancy, etc. The same with your brother or even you. When he was having those four kids did he once stop and think, okay, right now we are getting by okay but let's think long term here for a second. If I lose my job tomorrow, will we still be able to make it? No he didn't and that is why he is now struggling to take care of those children and go to school and whatever else he may be doing. My wife and I go through a "what if" scenario at least once a month if not more. Where would we go, how long could we make it on our savings, and every thing else that goes along with it, it is called planning for the worst.

I know how it feels to have your dreams crushed. I was on my second contract for the Marine Corps, signed my second contract in Iraq while we were at war. I thought I had my whole life planned out but when we got back from war, my life fell apart. I wanted to retire, be a lifer, but when we got back, my injuries and my mental state kept me from serving any longer. They actually said I was unfit for active duty, along with about 30 others. I lost everything, filed bankruptcy, so yes, I have been there and started from scratch all over again. I worked cleaning manure, I set up mobile homes, I worked as a dishwasher and a cook at several establishments, took multiple jobs, and not once did I look to the government for help. My ex wife now, took every dime I made while I was away at war, when we divorced, I was so tired of life and fighting, I just gave her everything and started over. It is possible, I am living proof. Yes I only have one kid, but that is where planning came in.

I do apologize, because I made the statement his decisions got him where he was today but I am sure losing his job wasn't because of a decision he made. Just like mine with the Marine Corps, I had no choice in the matter, I was forced out. But the choices I made after that is what helped lead to my recovery. I could have gave up, took unemployment, got food stamps, but I knew there were people out there that needed it more than me. So I told myself I would die before accepting help, why, because if I was willing to die for the people of this country at war, I was willing to give up any benefits they offered and die here too for my fellow citizens.

But now, after seeing how many people cheat the system, how many people that don't work because they feel a job is beneath them, people saying there are no jobs anywhere then walk into a gas station and see a sign saying "Now hiring", after all of that, I lost all compassion for anyone. Sorry if that hurts your feelings, sorry if that makes me an ass, but that is just how I feel and that is my personality. I am just one person and if my opinion matters that much to you then you may need to look into getting a life.

Really, because I have never in my life seen a fat vegetarian. So with your outlook, if you did a study, gave subject a nothing but chocolate, sodas, pizza, fast food full of grease, gave subject b nothing but veggies and fruits, that they both would come out with the same results. You have to be off your damn rocker to think that.

Ice, can you say STALKER? Lol I already told you kid but I guess nothing is going to get through to you. What do you want from me honestly? I told you what, this is the third time, when you can come physically remove me from my home, I will willingly go. Either step up to the plate or stop following me around. Do you need a hug, are you secretly wanting to go downtown and find you a hot hispanic chick too, I mean I have schooled you on everything you say. You want to follow me around and keep posting the same stuff over and over and over..........get some new material or move on. I asked you several simple questions and you could not answer one. You bore me and are a waste of time. Your hatred for hispanics has left you blind to facts. You post percentages and have this whole Mexican takeover skit down pat but when any person asks you where you got that info you turn into a 2 year old and respond with "you're a mexican I don't have to answer your questions." No dumba**, you just don't have a clue and are starting hate posts, you have never sat down and researched anything except maybe the KKK. So unless you are willing to have a conversation, not a white pride speech, please just stop talking, not just to me, just stop talking period.

Here Ice, we will do it one question at a time okay, but we may need to go to the other topic so people can talk about this one on here. But I will start here and see how it goes. I am trying to help you through some of that anger before you really get hurt by someone out there, whether you believe me or not. 1st question: If I stand an illegal hispanic by a legal hispanic, can you tell the difference just by looking? Simple question and fair to ask, and all I need from you is a simple response, either yes or no. If you answer yes, would you please explain to me how you can tell the difference? My whole point to this is not to defend the ILLEGAL ones it is to prove people's stupidity when it comes to this subject. People say, like omg, I walked into like the dollar store the other day, and like omg, these 5 illegal Mexicans came in, and they were like talking in a language I didn't know, like omg, what are we gonna do, they are taking over, lol. Really? So because they came in speaking Spanish and had dark skin, hair, and eyes, they are automatically illegal? That is profiling at its worst and that is what I am defending. I have told you that you have so much courage sitting behind that screen, so take that courage with you the next time you go out in public, walk up to any Mexican and ask if they are here legally. That goes for everybody, not just you. Don't hide behind a name, a screen, and spew your racist remarks if you don't have the courage to say it to their face. I will tell you this before you go out and try that though. You wouldn't want to go up to a Hispanic brother of mine that went to war and fought for your freedom and ask that because you may not like what they have to say or you may be on the receiving end of an ass whipping, depends on the mood they are in. Just before your racist mind starts, we all call each other brother regardless of skin color, that doesn't mean I am hispanic ice, which you can't get that through your head either. Once again, I am white, red hair, blue eyes, freckles, burn within 2 minutes of being outside, my skin is probably lighter than yours.

I do apologize I have never heard of Jet pizza. Here in Lebanon we have Papa Murphy. I agree that Welfare Like EBT food stamps are frivelously spent in this sence. I have use mine to get a pizza a few times. I am not going to try and wine but I am a single Dad. two pizzas and a red box make a great night for my kids and as much normalcy as i can give my kids I will.
I do agree that some people get on this system and abuse it. but honestly what is their incentave to leave it, if they get a job they lose benefits which in some cases is 200 dollars a month per child. so why would they lose that for a low paying job. I make 10 an hour as a CNA and am going to RN school I make 1800 dollars a month the help that I recieve from Welfare is they only way we can eat

also I do apologize about my earlier message about Hispanics. I do understand why they have come to america and TN. I would too if I was in their situation companies like perdue farms and tyson employee hundreeds of thousands of Men and women how are undocumented. I would be right next to them if I had no other option.

You must live with your mom in her basement. The time you spend on here writing stories about non sense is a waste. Please get a job and stop annoying people.

Hey dad from wilson county, I do owe you an apology also, yesterday was just one of those days and I kinda took some of that out on you. I do not have a problem with people like you, just the ones that abuse the system. I hope everything goes well for you and you are able to finish school. Man I couldn't imagine raising 4, like I mentioned before, I only have 1 and he can be a handful at times so I know you must struggle some. Good luck and hope all goes well for you and your family.

I too have a problem with those who abuse the system and I have found many ways that I believe they (government) could limit the abuse.

the person who started this forum thank you. I did not mean to hijack the forum.

one thing that I do get really agrivated at is the two gas stations in gallatin that will return cash on ebt.( you pay for a bag of chips find your remaining ballance and the cashier will ring you up for a store item like a bollogna samwich for the remaing ballance and cash it out to the person. I have not done it but I have seen it done by one of the pipe fitters i use to employ. that is one of the abuses that should be stoped immediatly. because then that is cash that can be used in any way that person wishes.

Just another example of rewarding people for doing nothing.
My sympathies to the unemployed father of four, but even still...food stamps at the pizza place?
For f**ks sake.
