Can't be worse than my migraines.:) Besides she's from FL, not a YANKEE!! hehehe
Not from around here, are you? <kidding>

I dont care who moves here or where they are from as long as they are decent.

However, lots of people on the forum disagree. And by the way, the ones who disagree consider people from Florida as actually being as BAD as a Yankee. Just a heads up.

If I ever give you a wedgie, my new friend, you will know it. LOL.

THe question was not about illegals, my gosh, it's the non-working, uneducated locals who are the primary folks I am talking about here. Only 70% of McDowell County Citizens have a HS diploma, and so those 30% do not value a higher education for themselves or their kids who they started having at a young age. It is an epidemic and it is the epidemic of staying stupid. These folks drain off the ones of us who work. The illegals are a problem, but let put some responsibility on the US citizens here who are bringing our county down. We have a ton of bad parenting going on, a ton of children having children, and a ton of kids who don't finish high school. We can't blame that on the illegals. It's easy to focus on the illegals, but we need to demand our own citizens shape up.

My list of needs when choosing this area did not included healthcare. However I have had 2 occasions to use the local hospital (Haywood County Medical)once before the "scandal" and once after. Both occasions received exemplary service. Of course I am too affluent to require government intercession. Maybe that's the difference between your experience and mine. I did require a referral for an Orthopod but that's to be expected in these days of specialization.
I applaude the fine men and women who continue to staff Haywood Medical and bid adieu to those who feel the need to jump ship. Not all the apples in the cart are rotten.
We are talking about The MCDOWELL HOSPITAL (Not Haywood) which has just lost obstetrical care and gynecological surgery. The CEO plans to get medical persons from Asheville to come in to fill the void. But until that happens, no more babies will be born here in McDowell County. It is a sad fact that our local hospital is losing services to perhaps better hospitals and our citizens will have to travel for medical care.

Well, we could get rid of the illegals if we cut off ALL of their benefist and maybe that money could be put towards helping our own American citizens!

Maybe those of us moving here for retirement don't really care if the locals are uneducated or if they don't have maternity care in the hospitals. We are beyond the age of that mattering. We do value good medical care and a good hospital to go to for our heart attacks, strokes, and other age related issues. This area is a great retirement place, great senior center, great support for all things elderly. So- who cares if women don't have local care. Make the hospital suitable for us seniors.

You have the right attitude to fit in here. <not>.

How about everybody have everything they need and the hard working taxpayers just foot the bill? <not>

Not all who are native to this area are uneducated, toothless and wed to their uncle. You deserve whatever you get.

looking at the population & percentages i dont think that is the problem however this naton as a whole needs to seriously address this & even worse the fact that our nationsold us out decades ago buy giving our industrial power to people only to willing to have ashot at making abetter life for their country allthe while our country sent our kids off to schools for 2,3 or 4 generations now we are so in debt and we don't have the desire to fix it just wait til inflation starts cooking . for now americans wanting to bring boat loads of their $ to spend up in the hills should be ultized to help the area's future job s

good post i have lived in asheville 45 years.born and raised there.i've seen posts on here about the uneducated natives and so on and so forth from transplants moving in.they have come here to save the mountains. asheville used to be the greatest place in the world to live, work and raise afamily.not any longer i recently left for mcdowell county because the cost of living there had became unbearable.my hope is one day these people who think they are gonna save our homeplace but couldn't make it in their own will let it rest.maybe then the natives can have a place to call home.

THIS TOWN IS FULL OF MEXICANS... THEY ARE MOSTLY ILLEGAL.. MY SYSTER WORKS FOR DSS AND WHEN THEY COME IN WITHOUT A GREEN CARD THEY MAKE UP RANDOM NUMBERS FOR A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD. THIS TOWN IS CATTERING TO THEM.. THERE ARE MEXICAN SHOPS EVERYWHERE. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO WISE UP AND BOOT THEM OUT!
For all the people around here who are so against the Mexican population, I just want to say...Go visit where they are coming from and you will understand why they come here.
Everyone who lives in Mexico doesn't live in the big vacation resorts. If you have ever seen the Kentucy coal mine towns where people live in tar paper houses, it is like that and sometimes worse. At least in Kentucky they have clean water.
I think anyone who is trying to better their living conditions deserves the right to do so no matter what race they are.
Remember, there but for the grace of God go I.

I remember around 20 years ago, a lot of people in McDowell County were acting the same way over all the people coming here from Laos.
