I'm 25 and the problem I have with Asheville its becoming to much of a city. Its reminding me
more and more of a mini Charlotte.
Its not enjoyable I mean if you love cities
then it would be. I also don't like How Asheville
city council and other leaders run Asheville.
If your a radical liberal who believes gays
should marry, hippie stoners passed out on the
streets, giving the homeless a pass.
The liberals in Asheville love their freaks.
I can't wait to leave.

You are incorrect on your assessment of Asheville. Asheville is a wonderful city with a diversified population. I don't think you have every visited Charlotte if you think Asheville is a mini city as Charlotte. Yes, we do have radical liberal, gays, hippies and the homeless. Please tell me where you are going to move without all types of people?
If you do not like the downtown area you can drive 10 miles or less and have wonderful views of the mountains and live a great neighborhood. I know that I live 15 minutes outside of Asheville and I have beautiful views of the mountains, wonderful neighbor (native/transplants) and each and everyone has so much to offer to the neighbor. We as neighbor look out for each other. We have neighborhood parties and enjoy each other companies. We go downtown frequently to listen to music and eat in the dining establishment.

I think Ashley is talking about Asheville becoming
overdeveloped. In the next 20 years Asheville will
be a mini Charlotte its already starting to happen.
Lots of cities are diverse Asheville is not
special in that department.

I have to say Asheville has alot o homeless and hippy stoner types and the gays are really out
here. Frankly I would rather Asheville be less
diversed. There are lots of places she could
go where there are not stoner hippies ect.

I think Charlottesville,Va. is wonderful.
Its not as trendy or large as Asheville but
is artsy and has a community. I definitely
want to leave Asheville don't like the direction
its headed.

I am a soon-to-be part-time resident and I am so excited! I LOVE the mountains! It will be nice to escape from the city, even if it is only part time.

If gay was a choice, I would choose it specifically to make this comment more accurate. However I guess if you like having no civilization near you, its a great place.

Asheville sure looks pretty in pictures I've seen with the mountains and all but after reading most of this thread I think I'll prefer to go back to West Virginia. I am ultra conservative so probably would not fit in anyway but all the best to all of you.

PipeStemBoy1942 ( Thats not the real Asheville)
Thats the chamber of commerce depiction
of Asheville. Asheville looks alot like
a mini Atlanta.

Jesus Christ, do you people *never* travel? Mini-Atlanta? Hell, even Greenville, just an hour away, has more development than Asheville. Asheville does everything in its power to discourage development and investment, which is part of the reason why it's so rare that a big company ever announces that it will bring a lot of jobs to town, and why hardly anything ever gets built on all those empty lots downtown.

Asheville is the closest thing that WNC has to a city, but all the NIMBY's here -- with the help of an inept government that won't ever do anything to bring decent employment or reasonably-priced housing to town -- will fight to the death to keep it from ever actually becoming a city. The last thing we ever have to worry about is becoming a mini-Atlanta. Greenville will cheerfully lap up all the opportunities we let go.

I think that your description of Asheville is extremely exaggerated. I have been to Asheville more tomes than I can count. I live just north of Cashiers, NC. There are a tons of hippies, yes...but there are no stoners passed out on the street. I have yet to see a homeless man begging for money and I used to live in South Florida. THEY'RE ON EVERY CORNER THERE! Also you are saying that gays are "freaks"? B!itch you need to get out more, if you don't believe in marriage equality for all then I shouldn't be paying for your damn birth control...the fact that you don't see us as people is astonishing and makes me begin to loose hope that people are loosing there humanity.
