Everyone has a story about pitt bulls I wonder if all of them can be true, its all in how a dog is raised, I have two mastiffs and two chihuahua's and the meanest one is the 3 lb. chihuahua, my grandkids put bows in there hair, except for the fact they are so big and sometimes knock them down with a tail now and then I fill completely safe with them and the kids.

I agree. Their dog took a life. They should be punished for this. Just as if it was their child that did the crime.
Last time I checked, the parents of a delinquent juvenile are not punished for the child's actions. The child can be punished until s/he becomes an adult, at which time their record is sealed.

True, but the owner of a weapon will be convicted if it were to be used in a crime by the owner right? Same thing here. I feel for the owners of the dogs, but, human life needs to have some value. Do not devalue this young mans life.

To me, certain types of animals should be considered weapons. You should have to be certified to posess them, and should have to take precautions to prevent this type of accidental occurance.

Make them buy Insurance to cover damages. We got to do something. This has been happening too much NOT to do something about it. Maybe it would be a start.

One would have to prove that the dogs were used by the owners in a crime. If they negligently cared for the dogs or knew that they were dangerous and did not take proper care of keeping them penned up...then yes they are culpable.

I for one think that all dogs as pets are a waste.

As a Pit Bull owner, I have to voive my opnion on this matter.
I have a Pit Bull that sleeps with my children every night, and greets every stranger with a tail wag and a kiss.
Pit Bulls will act according to however they have been raised, they are not much different than any other breed.
A ban is ridiculous. Start punishing bad owners, not the dogs.

if you google American Bull Dog, you will see ALL the breeds included in this "breed" of dogs... mastiffs, boston terriers, Spuds McKinzie's, on and on.... and while you are banning a specific breed just remember they are ALL from the CANINE species, along with Wolves, Coyotes etc...these include your cute lil Chihuahuas, Poms, Poodles, and so forth....
That doesnt take away from the fact that a child has died. I am sending prayers up for the families. G(B) and S C, my heart goes out to you both.
I am sorry, but I must correct you. There is a specific breed of dog that is the American Bulldog. I own one of these dogs. They look very similar to a pit, but are very different. That being said, I don't think that "banning" a breed of dog is the answer. I wonder if people who are choosing to "make extinct" an animal realize that they are playing God. I believe there should be laws and standards for EVERY pet owner to protect not only the owners and other people but also to protect the animals. We are all God's creatures. Its a sad situation.

I have a pit bull. I have four dogs and a cat in total. My pit has never shown aggression. My chihuahua has though. She'll bite you before my pit will, I guarantee it. On my street when I was younger a little boy (a doctor's son actually) was attacked by a dalmation. He had injuries much like the little girl who was in the paper. Tell me WHY wasn't THAT on the FRONT PAGE? WHY WASN'T THE DALMATION PUT TO DEATH?! Because it wasn't a AMERICAN PIT BULL TERRIER!? PUNISH THE DEED, NOT THE BREED.

I have just learned that my 10 year old great Nephew was Mauled to Death by two Pit Bull Dogs in Leverettes's Chapel this afternoon.
The Dog's jumped a fence & attacked this innocent victim, by the throat, until death. Both dog's had to be shot, to get them off the body.
Granted, I'm a Pet Lover, as I have 2, not Pit Bulls.
I cannot imagine the Horror of what my neice went throught, this afternoon, to watch her son die at the hands of these viciouse killers, with his throat being ripped out & arms.
I have a friend, that has two of these Pit Bull Breeds, and constantly worry about her safety. They have already attacked her cat. I still would visit her home regardless if she had a King Cobra Snake, but would never put my 2 dog's in Jeopardy of the Pit Bulls. Their behaviour can change in a momemet's notice, without warning
Question is how do you feel about this particular breed of Dog?. Would you own one knowing it's behaviour???
Again, I am a pet lover, but have a sour taste in this breed of Pet, and do worry about my friend.
Hello--
I hear these stories all the time about Pit Bull Dogs. I have a pit. I have had him since he was a pup. He has had nothing but love, and he is the greatest dog that I have ever seen. He never growls. When he meets someone new he licks them to death. My two grand kids ages 5 and 2 love him so much. They hug him, run with him and he loves it. Dogs are like people--give love and they love back. Treat them bad, beat them, chain them and they only will get mean. Do not judge all Pitts based on what happened. My dog only know love.
Thanks

The American Temperament Test Society performs temperament tests on different breeds of dogs. They are given a percentile grade meaning that that percent of the dogs that passed the test makes up the grade. American Pit Bull Terriers scored 85.3%, Dalmation 81.9%, Golden Retriever 84.6%, Chihuahua 71.1%, Collie 79.4%, Shih Tzu 77.5%, Saint Bernard 81.8%
So you tell me how is it that a Pit Bull Terrier is "born mean" if their overall temperment surpasses even the golden retriever. Too many of you people run your mouths of of ignorance when you don't even know the fact. The rest of the results from the test are avaiable at www.atts.org
Also, dogs that look like the American Pit Bull Terrier are: the Staffordshire Terrier, Argentinian Mastiff, Presa Canario, and the American bulldog, just to name a few.
