I have just learned that my 10 year old great Nephew was Mauled to Death by two Pit Bull Dogs in Leverettes's Chapel this afternoon.
The Dog's jumped a fence & attacked this innocent victim, by the throat, until death. Both dog's had to be shot, to get them off the body.
Granted, I'm a Pet Lover, as I have 2, not Pit Bulls.
I cannot imagine the Horror of what my neice went throught, this afternoon, to watch her son die at the hands of these viciouse killers, with his throat being ripped out & arms.
I have a friend, that has two of these Pit Bull Breeds, and constantly worry about her safety. They have already attacked her cat. I still would visit her home regardless if she had a King Cobra Snake, but would never put my 2 dog's in Jeopardy of the Pit Bulls. Their behaviour can change in a momemet's notice, without warning
Question is how do you feel about this particular breed of Dog?. Would you own one knowing it's behaviour???
Again, I am a pet lover, but have a sour taste in this breed of Pet, and do worry about my friend.

my son has a pit bull. He stays in the house and is always crated if someone new comes over. He (the pit bull) thinks he is a Yorkie and is just as gentle as a lamb. However, I think that as a rule these dogs are dangerous in the extreme. Even though our big baby is sweet sweet, you never know when he may change. Sadly, I think they should be illegal.

I think they should be banned. A lady, from Louisiana, was mauled to death by her own pet pit bulls...........they are a very aggresive breed.

If you ban one breed youre going to have to ban many many others. I bet cha didnt know that Boston Terriers are a relative of a pit bull?
There are many "harmless" dogs that are kin to a pit. There is a group that is tring to ban certain breeds. They have gotten the pit banned in Denver and Miami. They are also wanting to ban German Shepards, Rottweilers, Dobermans and a couple others. Might as well ban Chows too. Ive never been around one that didnt try to bite.
Sorry but my Rottie and Boston arent going anywhere. If you let them ban any animal, YOU are giving up your rights as Americans!
No Im not sticking up for Pits, I dont care for them. I wont let my kid play outside if there is one running lose. But you get my point.

WhoMe....I get the point that a 10 year old child is dead as a result of two dogs jumping a fence and attacking. I dont give a flying flip about what breed they are. This scribe has never had a problem with carrying a baseball bat on his walks and dont mind taking a healthy cut at any dog that wants to try me....mind you I am not talking about barking dogs or dogs that want to appear mean I am speaking of aggressive dogs that leave you no choice but to put Louisville Slugger into the ribs area.

I also lost a loved one to to this vicous breed. My four legged companion and best friend was brutally mauled by them. I'm sure much of the blame is that of owners as they tend, I said tend, to be ignorant punks trying to make up for the size of their "masculinity". As to the breed, they don't belong on the planet!

Pit Bulls are dangerous and in most cases lethal. They are responsible for the marjority of deaths and attacks by any breed of dog. The percentage is something like 67%. They are not considered a "breed" by the AKC and are not allowed to be registered at all by them. "pits" will attack without warning and will kill in most cases, once they have clamped their jaws on a human or another animal they will not let go until their prey is dead. The purpose of breeding these dogs is to make them fight to the death. they have been bred and interbred(mostly backyard breeding) for the purpose of fighting in pits as their name indicates. Some cities, towns, and even states have banned them completely. if the owners do not surrender them, the dog control will come and take them; then destroy them. They have attacked their owners as well as other people and animals. There is a big difference between a dog that bites someone and a dog that literally attacks to kill. These dogs are predators and they attack to kill. They should be banned and the breed destroyed. There needs to be more ordinances in cities and towns to do just this. Bottom line is these dogs are vicious killers and no other breeds combined have the killing percentage that they do. Statistics have proven these dogs are not pets but vicious killers.

well a ten year old boy has no chance against one of those monsters. my neighbors pit bull came at me a few years back in my yard .thank god my 13 year old alaskan malemute got between us and saved me. the pit got him by the throat and was killing him. all i had close was a garden hoe to try to save my dog .i hit that beast till i could barely stand up and he never let go of my dog and i'm over 6ft 285 pounds of solid muscle. it wasnt till i sunk the hoe between the dogs ribs and punctured a lung that he let go.sadly he didnt die and i had to carry my dog to the vet for the nexts 3 weeks and watch him slowly die of internal bleeding the vet couldnt stop.i'll always regret i didnt leave my loyal friends side and go get a gun and finish that mongrel off.yes my neigbors know if that dog gets in my yard again it will be the last time.pit bulls should be eradicated from the earth before anymore innocent children, adults or pets are their next victim

How horrible a tragedy. I would not have one at all. They will turn. My neighbor used to have one, that slept with her kids. Very territorial. Then one day it was outside and came to our pasture and grabbed a cow by the face. It was a horrible site. Did not and would not let go of the cows face and had to be shot while holding on to the cow. I say ban .. They are just vicous dogs who wnat the tase of blood.
BAN PITS

Pit bulls should require a special license and be kept at least five miles from city limits. Anyone with one of these animals should have to put up a $200,000 bond as well as keep adequate liability insurance to cover all injuries sustained by these animals. The license should cost at least $1000 per animal and need to be renewed annually. If someone is found to be in violation of these laws, they should be automatically sent to jail and the animals destroyed.

Solid muscle or not (which I seriously doubt),if you are 6' 2", then you have a BMI of 37, which is considered Obese class II. Get thyself to a doctor.

I personally don't think Pit Bulls are any worse than any other breed of dog. Dog's had a much greater purpose when we were an agrarian and hunting society. But unless you own a farm and need them for herding your livestock or you hunt and use them for pointing and retrieving, I don't see why anyone needs a dog.

Dogs are nasty dirty animals. They destroy property values. And why most people that own them treat them like humans confounds me to no end. I'm most of you will disagree with me. At least my house doesn't stink of dog.

Same goes for cats too.
