FORMER STUDENT, I'[m pretty sure everyone who lives within HISD boundaries has a say in the disposition of HISD assets, seeing as how we paid for them.

i think that anyone who voted for tearing it down should have somrthing they loved and cherished torn down. i went to first, second, and third grade there, and my oldest went there. i dont ever remember any hadicapped student there. if they would have, they would have made accomodations for those students. like not putting them in a class down stairs. yes the part under the auditorium might have leaked, but if you remember so did the brand new Wylie school before they opened. they still have problems with it. Montgomery was built to last. some people have said in the past, that it would last another hundred years.

The Hendersonpaper said today that it would have cost more than 3.5 million dollars to take out the asbestos and renovate it.and that was 2008 estimate. Probably would cost more than that now. It also said they are saving six classrooms and the gym.

The six classrooms and the gym are not part of the original Montgomery.

No they are only 28 years old. The gym is a unairconditioned metal building with a concrete floor. The high school wrestling team uses it for practice. Not sure what will be in those classrooms. I"ve heard Kilgore college and I've heard the alternative high school.

I do not understand why the empy schools are not used for the kids of Henderson. Has anyone been to a basketball game at the rec center??? It is awful. There is no space at all. Its like being in a small tin can. This is where our young kids start participating in sports, when they learn that there are better things for them to do than get in trouble. But when these kids have no indoor space to practice, when they slip on the floors because they stay wet, the walls look like they are about to fall down, the fold up chairs are full of rust,........why not let these kids use an empty gym?
