I'm not sure how my skepticism is disrespectful or demeaning. How did I insult anyone? I will readily and heavily insult your beliefs, as I feel that they are morally, historically, logically, ethically bankrupt. I criticize any Muslim dogma in the same way.
Does it insult you that I have a different opinion? Is it inflammatory that I suggest you take a look at your own belief, and examine them, much like your apostle Paul suggested? Or is it just insulting because you don't agree with it? That's how the Crusades got started.

I'll bet "Hitch" would be talking a different game if he could come back from where he currently resides.

Anyway, there is nothing wrong with questioning authority, or faith, or religion....after all God gave us the capacity to do so. The line is drawn based on how you choose to believe, followed by how you live your life. People who find it necessary to constantly question and belittle and insult my beliefs think they are following "my" Apostle Paul's teachings, but they are certainly not aware of how he lived the last days of his life. Jesus taught love, forgiveness, patience. Paul understood this. He paid the ultimate sacrifice. It's a simple fact that Man must have a higher calling. We have an eternal life. Where will it be spent?

Are you serious "West Texas Beauty"....happen to know who you are. Talking about heaven and hell is a bit much for a person of your caliber, don't you think? If there is a hell, which I truly doubt, I am sure you will burn in it. As far as understanding the Bible, most holy books are capitalized by the way, I would lay down my life you have never read a chapter out of the Bible, the Koran, Bhagavad Gita, or any other book of enlightenment of mankind. You are a pretentious idiot who preys on the weak.

The beautiful, simple part of this ages old argument is that God gave each of us free will. Where to spend eternity is a choice each of us gets to make. However, as is always the case, arguments for hell are shallow and un-convincing. Your understanding of the bible is also lacking. A christian response is to talk, listen, witness. We are not here to condemn but rather to inform.
You state that heaven will be boring and hell will have decent company. I'm going to disagree with you on both counts, but I cannot make you change your mind. Hell is going to be anything but fun and games. It will be torment, damnation, suffering and total chaos. It will be for eternity. As for me, I dont care who is there I would much rather be "bored" in heaven. That being said, I am convinced that there are no words in our lexicon to describe the wonders waiting for us in heaven.
As to your last comments, describing a philosopher as "great" does not impress me. I know some philosophers here in East Texas and I consider many of them to be great. Philosophers have been arguing about the bible for hundreds of years. Nothing new.
You are trying to convince people to your side of "enlightenment" so that they can "live their lives freely, morally, justly, and with more vigor and enjoyment". I would challenge you on that statement. Me and the people I run with are free in Christ, striving always to be moral. We live our lives vigorously for others, as Christ instructed us, and from that we derive all kinds of enjoyment (joy). You may also have these things, and I hope you do. I dont wish you to hell....far from it.

Honestly cant see where you might have developed such a hateful tone towards me. It is sad for you, not me. The so called books of enlightenment are all the same, save for one. God inspired, it teaches of a new covenant, of love, a path to salvation, forgiveness, charity, etc. I prescribe to and live by these tenets. I am happy and fulfilled. There is only one way to achieve this. I hope you find it.

Etxzombie you are like most atheists and agnostics in that you seem to have a real need to argue, belittle or denounce the beliefs of decent Christians. Why is this?
You remind me of the insecure night watchman who, upon hearing strange noises, begins walking the halls, shining his flashlight to and fro, all the while talking to himself so as to reassure that there is nothing really there and no reason to worry.
How about this...I challenge you to explain what you DO believe in. How do you get through crisis situations in your life? How do you explain the beauty and wonder of such things as the Grand Canyon, Rocky Mountains, a magnificent thunderstorm or a cloudless night so full of stars they might smother you. How do you explain the tiniest act of human creation which will be destined for life of which no one can predict?

The covenant of salvation is not new, sweetcakes, it has been around for a very long time. Longer than the Bible. The Bible was written 400 years after Christ's death. What about the lost gospels of Peter and Paul that were discovered. Have you mastered Theology, or even studied it? "So called books of enlightment", these writings are dated thousands and thousands of years ago. Ever hear of the Vedas? Check out Henry David Thoureau.Knowing you and your background, I would venture to say the black arts are what you have practiced. There is no hate toward you, manifesting hate takes energy....the truth will set you free, not senseless babble.

You could take every grain of sand on every beach, turn each one into a single argument, or "logical" reference or even a "point of enlightenment".... and you still would not be able to unwind the mystery of God or comprehend the love He has for you.

Christian ethics? What are they?

You are afraid of something....

Your hate may not be towards me, but it's there. Thoreau? Love his writings. In fact, I think we could all use a little more Thoreau in our behaviour towards one another, especially in discussions like these.

The Truth HAS set me free, my friend.

That was not cut and paste, it was all me. Polluted mind? Maybe. Its hard work to keep ones mind from being polluted in this world we live in.

Sweetcakes, you sure mention the word, hate, an awful lot....sounds like projection to me.....personally, I would lay money you have never read Thoreau. It seems you have a very closed, distorted mind when it comes to a belief system other than your own. Why would you engage in a conversation with someone who has religious beliefs other than your own in a disparaging way. Who is to say "your" way is the only way to worship God? Or not to worship. Are you judge and jury? You are a funny girl :)

My, my, my...West Texas Beauty, careful your true colors are showing. Remember I do know you, up close and personal. Christian, atheist, agnostic my ass. Higher Power is a Higher Power some choose to call God, some choose to call something else. A person's belief is just that, their own personal belief and no one else's business. Last time I checked we have religious freedom in this country and the ability to express it. Faith is faith. I really don't believe any faith would condone taking advantage of the weak, sick and depressed....manipulating,crea ting havoc, undermining, stealing....shall I go on......this said...leaves me questioning why a person like you would engage in a forum on religion. Oh, silly me, you try to look intelligent.....

EXZombie- you make some excellent points.

"Before you speak to me about your religion, first show it to me in how you treat other people. Before you tell me how much you love your God, show me in how much you love all His children" Cory Booker Mayor, Newark NJ

Doodlebug, from your comments I have a hard time believing you act like a Christian yourself. I haven't seen anything bad from west Texas beauty but you sure have put her down. And you tried to bully her with manipulation. I don't think that's very nice either and maybe you are just that. A bully. You've been judgmental as well and that's another bad trait. You might wanna look in the mirror before you start in on others.

Mayor Booker makes an excellent point. In fact, this summarizes more than anything else the way I try to live my life. An old expression I love basically says we must not judge until we have walked around in anothers shoes. I have not judged any other religions, or enlightenments, etc on this forum. I have merely stated my place and my beliefs. I say the word "hate" a lot because there IS a lot of it around and I prefer to keep it in front of me so I can see it, not inside me so I can use it.

Doodlebug, if I gather correctly you have been hurt...severely. Further, I'm guessing you may have been hurt by so called professing Christians. For that, I am sorry. I really hope you will find someone who can help ease your pain. This life is short.

Awwww, what a tangled web we weave.....

A person should be allowed to worship or not worship any way they see fit without getting attacked. Especially by someone who is trying to be a few different people on the Henderson Forum. Honesty.....really.....

A personal attack, maybe a little, mostly to stand up for the rights of others.

I believe in Jesus Christ, where do you get that I don't? Just because I believe in religious choice?

Things and people are sometimes not what they appear to be. Tread lightly, dear one. God is watching.

Talking points of a mis-guided or mis-informed agenda. Yes you may believe, and I have never stated otherwise about that, or about religious choice. I have not attacked you. However, I do know that the one who does attack, who seeks to destroy this world for himself, also believes, and trembles. Best to you Doodlebug.

Sometimes God strikes us with crisis to make us pivot on out heels and turn to him. There is
One God and only one who will give us everlasting life. This is possible because
Of the blood of Jesus Christ. May
Crisis not have to burden your life but rather may
You find salvation through the
Bible by studying his word, the one and only word of our Lord.

So, no, you're incorrect, freedom. The old testament law still applies.

In Matthew 10, jesus had this to say about peace...

34 Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword.

35 For I am come to set a man against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.

36 And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.

37 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.

I have so many issues with that one passage, I don't even know where to begin.
it was fulfilled when Jesus died for your sin.
