Why does it take so long to get a ambulance to a house in town? I live 6 minutes from a fire station and they get there fast when I call. Not our ambulance. The city manager says its not controlled by the council.

Ambulance service is provided by a private company and has nothing to do with city or county

Why would you want to go to Henderson's hospital?

I found out its private. Champion is the company and they are owned by mother fransis and good Shepard hospitals. Why do we not let our city collect the profit on ambulance calls maybe then it would be cheaper if the city set the fees.

If the city was to operate the EMS service here in Henderson the cost would be higher than with the current provider. This is due to the fact that there would be fewer runs to spread the cost over. Also if the city owned the service it would mostly be reduced back to two trucks as it was when HMH operated the service which could definitely increase response time. Everyone needs to remember that just because the station is six minutes from your residence does not that is the response time. The units may not be at the station. The personnel that respond to your medical emergencies here in Rusk county do a great job and risk their lives daily to serve you.

As for the hospital you are transported to, state of Texas law requires the EMS unit to transport the patient to the nearest appropriate facility.this is to protect the patient.

The cost would be prohibitive. City would have to pay EMS drivers, they would also be on the hook for liability insurance, and other costs associated with running and ambulance service. City of Henderson has never been in the ambulance business and for good reason.

I guess I was looking at it wrong. I figured that if it was tax based and managed through the fire service like many other towns that it would be effective. I see no reason why Henderson wouldn't make money since obviously champion is
