Henderson Nevada is an Incorporated City and gets away with anything they want. In addition, there is a Henderson Travel alert currently in place on the web.
Henderson is NOT a user-friendly place to live or relocate. Property Taxes are high and there is a sales tax of 7.5 percent on all goods that goes to the cops. The air is polluted badly with Smog and Ozone. The residents are on Water restrictions. You cannot use it for watering, you cannot use it for washing your car, and you cannot use it to drink since its hard water with rust and pollutants from Lake Mead, to include dead bodies that are filtered through the system. There is Excessive police abuse and a total disregard of Constitutional rights to include motorcycle speed traps, beating the elderly and handicap, a failure to communicate and ticketing motorist on Sunday in Church parking lots. The municipal court judges are corrupt and supports the police abuse. The City also charges for everything and requires pet sterilization. There are Poorly designed and crooked roads. Brutal summer heat in excess of 120 degrees. Bad and acidic soil. Bad schools with very low graduation rates. Rodent problems to include Scorpions; Rattle snakes, Cockroaches and Lizards. High unemployment rate. Earth quakes and flash flooding are yearly for the most part. Stucco built chicken wire houses, which crack horribly. High Grocery food prices. Heavy traffic congestion. We relocated 5 years ago and have regretted it every minute of it and are trying to sell out. There is nothing special about Henderson. It’s over crowded with no back yards and lacks reasonable property size. These are just a few items to consider about Henderson Nevada.

Can it really be that bad in "all parts of the valley"...I mean Henderson is right next door to Vegas, so if all of what you've said holds true, well then one would assume that much of that applies to Vegas and the entire Clark County area aswell.
Is Paradise or Winchester any better in regard to the aforementioned quality of life issues?

Please move on and find a better place for yourself. The growth is rampant because of all those people who did not do their research. We moved to Clark County 30 years ago. We only wish more people would choose to move out! Most of the charms that have kept us here have been smothered by the population growth. I have been stung by a scorpion, chased the same snake out of my yard twice, coyotes have devoured my neighbors and our cat, plus take leisurely walk around the neighorhood. I still love Nevada.

I lived in Henderson, NV from 1995-1999, Green Valley Ranch. It was beautiful, friendly and safe at that time. The houses were spacious, yards minimal but PRIVATE, God Bless six foot retaining walls, makes for great neighbors! I still have several friends in the area and are happy there. It (like any city) has good sections of Henderson and some not so good. Green Valley is very nice to this day. However, recently have had some friends move from Green Valley back to the East Coast their biggest qualm with Green Valley Ranch was the scorpian infestation (sp?)which has been brought in from transplanted palms from AZ. Some areas are worse than others and I would thoroughly research that, even to go as far as asking residents in the neighborhood you were considering buying in.
Good Luck! But overall it is a nice area and has a ton of nice amenities! I moved back east to be with family or I'd still be there!
ps Market is flooded so flipping a house is probably a bad idea.

Well, take it from a current resident, if you are planning to move here MONEY is the name of the game. Housing prices are rediculous $250K+, Wages suck, traffic is horrible even in Henderson (sorry, but it's one big valley, no separations), crime, tourists (sometimes can be bad). Basically, if you are going to make it a home, good luck. Las Vegas is not what it used to be. You can barely afford anything, unless you are rich, or from California (sometimes goes hand-in-hand)

More info to think about Henderson.
Henderson Nevada is so Anti-American, that the city has impose a Flag Pole Building Ordinance, that states anyone wanting to put up a flag pole has to submit blueprint plans and that will cost you $66.99 for a plan check followed by a building inspection of $29.99 for a grand total of $96.98. Also no can build a patio enclosure, to upgrade the property unless its 15 feet from the back wall and everyone knows very few partials have that kind of property, also has blueprints, electrical permits, geological surveys, pluming permits, land use permits, and so on and have been approved and inspected all at a cost of over well over $500 dollars. Pools and Spa’s also have to have all these issued to pass and pay. In other words, a property owned CANNOT do anything without first paying for all those city steak dinners, police new uniforms, city new cars and all those things that support domestic terrorism and restricts American freedoms. This info and much more can be found on the web in the City of Henderson’s building department. There is nothing good to say about Henderson or the Las Vegas area.

Henderson, a Crime area!
April 14, 2006 09:38 PM EDT
The eastern part of Henderson is getting some negative police attention these days. But not attention residents living there would want. According to the new Police Chief, the area is known for drugs, shootings and violence and he wants to clean up that part of town. Chief Perkins says for the past few weeks, they have been driving through the area and watching it “kind of fall apart”. Perkins took the position of Henderson Police Chief just over two weeks ago, and is already harassing residents in hopes to make changes to cut down on crime." The problem area is bordered by Boulder Highway on the south, Lake Mead Boulevard on the west and Race Track Road on the East. Chief Perkins says there has been a lot of criminal activity in the area, "We've had a number of shootings in the last few weeks. And a number of drug related complaints, and the like." The biggest problem, he says, are the people who've recently moved to the area. So Perkins is putting more patrol officers in the area to crack down on citizens, and he's asking the City and Public Works to help clean up the neighborhood, "Towing off dead cars. Cleaning up yards. Painting over the graffiti with the court programs people. The police are taking it one step at a time systemically oppressing the taxpayers. By the beginning of next year, Perkins plans to have the police department divided into four districts. Each with their own captain, which will allow officers to be closer to the people they serve and abuse.
Another arrogant police chief who fails to understand the community or its needs. A great place to relocate right????

NO Rattle snakes, cotton mouth sidewinders are everywhere and we musn't forget the RATs located in the downtown area. Backed up by stinky sewers, garbage and filthy streets.
Now take a look at Henderson, and you can find all of this and more, to include wild mountian lions, poisonous brown spiders and the famous blackwidow spider. Either way its bad.

I love it in Spring Valley! It is a Southwest area of Las Vegas with an excellent police force, emergency response time, nice clean neighborhoods, and by the way, my daughter's school had a 100% graduation rate. We have owned our home here over 5 years, and yes housing rates have risen, but they are still way below Green Valley(it's really just Henderson, but the people there don't want to admit it!) Summerlin is nice, and there are new homes going up at good prices all the time all over the valley. It may get warm here, July-August mainly, but you never have to shovel the sunshine out of your driveway to get out in the morning! And you will love it here Oct to May when it's truly lovely.
I have watched this valley grow for 40 years, and I can't understand your complaints! In 89147 there were 2 garages broke into this month, that's our worst crime, and there is no trash or graffiti anywhere in my neighborhood. I don't live in a gated community, however there are plenty around, and they would stay nice, I beleive. People from CA and NY understand how reasonable the cost of living is here!

In 40 years I saw 1 scorpion, in the desert, and 1 snake, in the mountains. I suffered no injury from either.
I think you would appriciate the cost of living here! We don't pay to park, as a general rule, and everything is less here than in NY.

Don't believe it.
Henderson is a stink hole with bad leaders, greedy city officials, abusive cops, excessive fees for everything and food prices are outragous.
The cops messed it up for everybody. Constant motorist harrasments, abusive behavior, violant confrontations, failure to communicate, and overzeloust actions against the elderly, children, teens and everyday citizen. Yes we voted against them and their corrupt judges like Ken Proctor and John Provost. Yes we voted against tax increases. Yes we voted for a different mayor. The problem is they have lied so many times that they have convinced the old residents in believing what they do is right. Go ahead, and drive around Henderson and see it for it yourself. Look for the hidden motorcycle cops behing the block street walls. Then smell the stink of the area's sewer. Mr Sanchez doesn't live in Henderson. His area is the rich part of the valley. Henderson is the old folks slums of Las Vegas.

Wow! I'd hardly call Spring Valley the rich part of the valley, but then again, maybe it's come back from being a sleeper area from years ago.

The biggest thing anyone from the east coast will have to overcome is the racist attitudes of LV and surrounding areas. Many services in town have "foreign" workers, regardless of the current hot topic as to whether they are legal or not. But you'll find serious attitude towards these people from whites and blacks. It's brutal and too often embarrassing, regardless of your thoughts on the matter. So much of the comments and actions are just plain ignorant.

Anyone on the east coast, especially NYC, knows they are the dog, with the rest of the nation (dare I say the world) being the wagging tail. Everything is based on what's going on in DC or NYC. Few west coast people give a damn or care to follow world events. The east coast has finished a full days work by the time the west coast has barely started their day ... Oh, but LV people will love to chat up all the conspiracy theories you can listen to. It's sickening really, and that's not to say I love the government and all the shit all of us put up with! Please don't get pissed off that I said it that way ... I'm talking in generalizations only, just pointing out some basics that come to mind.

Something that hasn't been mentioned is the serious drug problem in Clark County. You never know who's doing meth or cooking it. You all know that rancid smell in the air - a hospital cleaner kinda smell. Yeah, that's the lye from cooking dope! Next thing you know your house catches fire from the blown up "cook" house next door. Some of the finest houses in town are used for making dope. It isn't always trailers or trashy neighborhoods, so you can't ever be sure about dopers. It's a 24 hour city, yet if that were true, you'd be able to see your doctor or visit your bank any time of day, right? You can't do anything in LV you can't do in NYC any time of day - except get so-called entertainment via casino fare. Tomorrow never comes and this makes drug use for never ending fun really easy to get caught up into and fast. Don't let age fool you either, meth addicts come in all ages and all professions ...

Best thing - trust no one and don't share personal details. Be courteous and move on. Refrain until the other person has shared their own truth, and proven their intentions. You wanna know that person isn't "bonding" with you in order to scope out your life's treasures for dope deals. Also, LV men see woman as either another hole for free fun or think she's an off duty "working girl" bitch if she dares to turn down their kind of fun. Women get very little respect in LV, unless they hold tight and true to their morals.

Okay I'm done for now. I'm sure many will find something to condemn about what I've said. I've spoken the truth in VERY broad statements. Don't take it personally.

Clark County Schools FAIL. Something to think about before anyone relocates to this area.
The basic skills test was given to 4th, 7th and 10th graders earlier this year. Besides science and math, children were also tested in English and reading. In most cases local students were in the lower half of the score range. More about test scores in Nevada District leaders say one problem is language and the fact many students are still learning English. But school district leaders also realize improvements are needed, especially in the area of science. Eyewitness News goes beyond the test scores to show you how one local middle school is out to prove that fostering a love for science could boost learning in all subjects across the board.

At Bailey Middle School, it is not your mother's science class. Whether it's a field trip to the Valley of Fire, or a classroom lab activity on the power of the sun, Shana Baker's seventh-grade earth science students get real world lessons -- not textbook boredom.

Shana Baker said, "What we wanted to do was make science real and meaningful to students. The new Life Science curriculum really accomplishes that." Baker helped revamp the Clark County School District's entire middle school science curriculum for next year. Her current students got first crack at part of the new curriculum this year. Seventh graders Corin Dunne and Keaton Orey now agree science is a lot easier to learn when you're living it. "You can actually visualize it in your mind when you take the test," Keaton Orey said.

That's the kind of learning this science teacher says will stick with the students come test time. Reporter Alyson McCarthy: "Do you think this curriculum is capable of raising test scores?" Teacher Shana Baker: "Yes, that is our belief."
Bailey Middle School students did actually score higher in science than they did in reading on the Iowa standardized test this year.

Baker says science encompasses several core disciplines including reading, writing, math, geography and even history. So, could excelling in science boost scores in all subjects across the board" Shana Baker replied, "If we use this the way it's meant to be used and we prepare our students, it will increase our test scores."

Eyewitness News asked Baker where she got her love for science. She said she grew up watching Jacques Cousteau on TV. Baker says there's nothing as exciting as finding your first fossil.

Do your own homework and research.
Nevada schools has been ranked worst in the nation for years.
Teachers are constantly arrested for being child preditors and are listed on the sex offenders list.

Even several Henderson cops are former sex offenders.

Here's the latest news. There have been recent lay offs in the valley that effect arount 100 individuals.

Henderson is getting croweded and the streets bumper to bumper driving.

Now we are approaching the 120 degree mark. Welcome to the oven.
Remember, heat takes away air. Smog and ozon increases. People can't breath and asma desese is in full swing.

Don't forget. This valley is hosting hundreds of new abusive cops just hired for you enjoyment and will be out to screw up your life.

Hint. They like to hide behind street corner block walls.

How can you be posting these without any backup? for a lot of people, this is part of their research, and if are mentioning specific situations, I'm pretty sure you got it somewhere, and it would be nice(and a surprise?) if you could provide us lesser beings the source you have about the police, school, even the weather, for someonese sake! pretty simple to validate your position in a community, which this is......

as such, people on this board would just take your comments as it is: a random rambling of a uninformed individual---same if I take time to post that:

"LAS VEGAS HAS THE GREATEST TEACHERS! THE COPS GIVE YOU FREE MONEY!! MOVE HERE NOW, ITS FREEZING IN JULY!! SNOW EVERYWHERE!...."

For those of you that have read the comments by MMM, he sounds like a moron. Henderson has building codes in place so that the property value does not decline; besides that fact, the people that decide to build additions to residences do it so they do not collapse or catch fire through electrical problems. Poor schools? Henderson has the best rated schools in thevalley, and continually score high in national rankings. Do not confuse Henderson schools with the rest of Clark County. Yes, yards are small in certain areas. If you want a house with a large yard, look around, there are plenty.

Someone is in a finger-wagging mood and unfortunately they seem to be concentrating on you! Maybe they think you've fallen from grace for some reason, or perhaps you're simply the only person who happens to be around when they feel like letting off steam.
