WAYNESVILLE Many of the benefits of farmland go to people who aren't farmers, but how many of those people value the land from which they reap these benefits? The results of two recently released studies helped to quantify the value farmers and non-farmers place on agricultural land.

I am a Buncombe County native, more than 70 years old, and I have seen a lot of changes in my lifetime. All of the changes have not been progress. Farms and orchards in this area have almost become a thing of the past, and I for one think this is very sad. I don't blame the land owners because they can make more money selling their farms and orchards to developers. The farm land and orchards then become housing developments, shopping centers, banks, etc.
I don't know what the answer is, but I sure hate to see these changes which many call progress.
