Lo and behold...this is one of those rare occasions when I agree COMPLETELY (that's 100%) with an AC-T editorial!! Cuts to balance the budget seems to impact the education systems first. Obama's newest cabinet appointee slashed heavily the education funding in her state, so it seems to be a trend. But, as you state the "education" lottery should be for education only. The children of today ARE our future! What part of that do they not understand?

Who in the world thought anything about Bev Perdue would be fair? For all those who voted for Perdue you get what you wanted: Mike Easley in a dress. I hope you are happy as you watch the state slide further into hell.

Lord only knows we don't need to cut any money from education. I say we start cutting money going towards "project housing" etc to pay for it.

Why didn't they cut the billions the State spends every year for the care, feeding, and comfort of criminal migrants.

edit: I didn't put a question mark....but then, I it isn't a question because we already know the answer.

Lets see. Perdue is a Democrat. Democrats are tax cheats. Democrats are liars. Democrats steal from those that worked for it and give to those that won't work for it. Seems to me, she is following the party line pretty well.

The very last place that should be cut is education. The state of NC has never been very friendly towards education, and Bev is carrying on that tradition. Bev is the one who ran on an education platform, that she was going to be sure that all high school grads could go to community college for free, etc., etc. Now the first place she goes when she needs money is the money set aside to fund education. Either they've falsely advertised the lottery as being the "education lottery," or Bev has illegally taken money that is not hers to take.

I remember when a sales tax on food was passed under the governernorship of Terry Sanford. It was supposed to go only toward education, so what's new?Besides, the money that is directed toward building more modern schools isn't resulting in smarter students. Look at your monthly cable TV bill and you will see that you are paying a fee so that schools can have computers. If we want to improve education, we need to get back to teaching the basics where students have to learn to think.

This is absolutly wrong!!

We need to work hard to stop growing gov't by getting revenue for schools and spending it later on all other excessive growing of gov't.

We need to be out raged with this stealing.

If only she could read. Evidently she can't. I read right on my lottery ticket where the money was going to go. Maybe she's never purchased a lottery ticket?

The NC Education Lottery was created (supposedly) to fund building modern school facilities.

The 3% budget cuts that have been submitted call for cutting personnel (4,500+ teacher assistants). The 5% and 7% cut these positions even more.

Economics was never my subject but doesn't it make sense to keep people working in our communities by pulling from the NC Education Lottery to fund these positions?

All the Perdue supporters should start getting what they want about now. Let's all hope they want the opposite of what she promised. Let's all hope they want higher taxes, less education, fewer jobs and a lot more vacations for the gov.

Bily is right, look at the money we could save on getting rid of the prisons that are not supposed to be here anyway, NC ranks 30 something in edu. 8th in teen preg. where did that come from, we are letting go of assistant teachers, leaving the teacher to take care of 25 or 30. Get rid of all the crap we throw away on illigals from everywhere, an use that, i'm sure Bun. & hend. could do right well, look at the food that is thrown away enough to feed alida home from one school, all of you that want to feed the homless, well there is a chance to do it.
I'll bet that the cong. an rep. get a raise this yr.
An i bet you don't. Like Yep said enough of this shite is enough, start taking care of our own an let the rest worry about themselves.

Why would anyone expect the lottery to be fair? Remember how it was passed by Bev Perdue when she was Lt. governor? She snuck around, played dirty, mislead, and told half truths.... pretty much like she will govern for the next four years. Do not expect any ethical behavior from this woman or any of her supporters. Expect the same corrupt management you would have received from Mike Easly's third term.
