Glad to see there's no comments about "yankees" or Northerners or people from other areas moving in and destroying the mountain way of life. A mix of peoples adds to the "spice" of the culture and life of a community. Now all we need are jobs other than service for folks to life here, and do more than survive.

Buncombe County has grown enough and hopefully the trend will stay down. I don't mind "yankees or northerners even floridians" moving in as long as they don't try to change our country way of living to their style of life before moving.

Asheville will never become an Atlanta, Charlotte or even Greenville, SC population wise because of the ever eroding middle class and an economy based primarily on tourism and construction along with a local government that actually discourage middle class manufacturing jobs.

Another major factor the article neglected to cover is the 'external perspective of WNC.' The previous post is absolutely correct. Anyone who's been around this wonderful country and payed attention to the things that really matter (not the superficial, man-made BS that most destinations are consumed in) know that WNC is quite possibly one of the most attractive retirement options in the country. I think once the market warms up in general, we're going to go back to steady growth and Florida, Arizona, Lost Wages, et al is going to get what they have coming, now that the blanket of shallow superficiality has revealed what little they all offer in the way of the things that are truly important in life. The people and the topography and climate as a whole in WNC are predominantly a very special asset. We need to accentuate that AND SIMULTANEOUSLY control growth in the area so we can all quietly and methodically grow in the popularity we already enjoy. God bless WNC.
