Why do people who receive food stamps and welfare not have to claim the money on income taxes. They usually get huge refunds (more than they pay in) and also get this free money. Just don't think they should get all this free money as well as a tax refund more than they have paid in. No wonder we have such a huge national debt.

Does this concern anyone else?

I receive some help not much but a little and I pay in taxes. I'll owe about 2,000. Because I make cash at work. But I'm a ho.est person. If I wanted to be a low life I wouldnt claim my job because I make cash. But I'm a single mother struggling through nursing school. Please don't judge everyone who uses a ebt card its embarrassing enough. You lose some pride just another year and I'll be done!

What about Emily Powell. She collects food stamps and welfare and lives with her husband who is working but they don't report the income.

We need to go back to commodities instead of food stamp/ebt card.
A bag of rice, beans and a block of cheese. Its time to cut the umbilical cord on the leaches.

No thank you LOSER I will keep my job. Not a hater just tired of people like you continue to hold your hand out always expecting someone owes you something. See you don't think you should have to claim that welfare. Case proven.

You are exactly what the programs are for. My daughter and grandchild had Medicaid and wic while she finished college. I commend you for what you are doing. Way to go!! It the low life people that ride the systems for life and their children and grandchildren follow in the same looser foot steps.

You are dumba$$es, if u only draw government assistance you can't get a tax refund! You have had no income therefor you have paid in NO taxes so how do you think they would get a refund!!?

Better check again genius. Know of more than 10 examples. How do you think people get refunds of more than they ever paid in. That is the point of this point. Now who is the dumbass??

You are wrong!!! You HAVE to have some kind of income from working. If you only get assistance like food stamps, welfare check ect then you don't file taxes!! Now some people work and receive food stamps, they do file taxes but claim the amount of food stamps on their taxes. The reason some get more back than they paid in is because of EIC and the amount of certain credits based on their adjusted gross income!!!!

Reread the original post. The point is anyone receiving government assistance should have to file taxes and claim the assistance as income. This would include food stamps, welfare, Medicaid, etc. Why should these monies be exempt from taxes. As a tax payer, all my income is taxed including a refund if I were to receive one.
