Wondering a few things about Henderson. Just moved here from Bowling Green and need some resident input. So, here it goes.

Best pediatrician?
Information on Bend Gate Elementary (issues with the school setting, teachers, etc.)
Any preschool programs?
What age does the child have to be in order to start preschool?
Best family doctor?

Any other information about Henderson would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Get a pediatrician I'm Evansville. Then, if your Hilda is ever hospitalized or really sick they won't be treated at Methodist Hospital. They suck.

Try East Heights or Spottsville. Heard Bemd Gate is full of bad behavior and ill-mannered kids now due to bad neighborhoods in vicinity.

there are good doctors here in town!!! Dr.Farmer is a newer pediatrician here in town and I have heard great things about her!! Methodist is not the best hospital ever but some people can not go to evansville because its a different state. I have had good experiences at Methodist and bad ones too.(nothing serious though) I have sub taught at Bend Gate and its not a bad school! The kids were not bad and the teachers were very good and the staff was great! My child goes to Spottsville and I love it there but I dont think that Bend Gate is bad by any means!

There is a new preschool on green st that is opening but I dont know if it will be this year or not is through the school system.(Huge building all the preschools are moving there) Some day cares offer preschool too. The community college has an awesome program there my daughter went there when she was 3-5 and I loved it! I dont think u have to be a student for your child to go there .... I would for sure check into it (its been five years since my child went so I dont know the rules there now )

Dr Farmer is an awesome pediatrician!!!

Cathy Marable is a NP at Dr Watkins and Wright's office, she is awesome, but I'm not sure if they are taking new patients!

If you can go to Evansville, Dr Butsch/Butch is pretty awesome too.

And as for Bend Gate, I work there and yes with the all the rearrangements there are some "less fortunate" families there, but it is a great school!!! Great staff, great kids!!! The principle is wonderful!!

Thanks everyone! I actually just transferred to Henderson Tech, so I'll look into their preschool program.

Our health insurance only works in Kentucky, unless I get a referral from a primary physician. Otherwise, we would be getting a PCP in Evansville.:(

Can I get my child into a different school here if we don't like Bend Gate?

Dr. Fife is a good pediatrist. And I don't believe there is a way to transfer schools unless u use someone elses address that u know

I think u can put in a request for transfer if you have issues with a school. But I dont think u will have a problem with Bend Gate so dont worry:) I still say look into the college preschool its amazing, they have an actual art teacher that comes there and teaches art to the kids not just finger painting and coloring type stuff. Hope this helps!

South heights is by far, in my opinion of course, one of the best schools around! They do so many wonderful actinides throughout the year!! They are ranked # 1 in elementary schools right now.. Excellent staff!! They are so down to earth and they really know all the parents by name and everything!! O can't say enough good things about it :)

Pediatrician- we use crick/fife/ervin and they have some wonderful nurse practitioners that I prefer over the actual doctor!!

Since you must have a Ky Hospital I suggest Owensboro Ky. OMS. Only 30 mi. from Henderson and far superior to Henderson's Methodist Hospital. My family has had many horrible potentially fatal experiences there. We switched to OMS & have never been disappointed. Well worth the 20 - 30 min drive for the piece of mind knowing they are competent.

Pediatrician's Crick & Fife are good Dr.s but their office is very over crowded. Farmer would be a better choice.
As for a family Dr. It depends on if you have private insurance or a medical card as to which doctors you can choose from.

I went to south heights when I was in elementary school and I loved it there...the teachers r great and Mr.Carroll is an awesome principal...I still keep in touch with him and his family and my son will go to south heights when he is old enough. We also use Crick and Fife and they r really good with my son and I like them.

I will probably look into making the Owensboro hospital the place to go for major accidents. I do like how quiet it is here. Thanks, most everyone for their advice.

Yeah, I saw that post on Kids Time Daycare...and there is no way in hell I would put my sweet little boy in that hell hole. Thanks for the warning on that one though. Lol.

Thanks "henderson" poster, but seriously, I moved here for a reason...not about to turn around now and go back to living in BG. I definitely would not move to Evansville...too big of a place for me. We do shop there though.

There are also great places to shop in Owensboro & they are much friendlier than Evansville Stores.
