Being an old gangster and living the life I have to say Adams, Neviles and Duvall. Those were the detectives in the day, none today even come close.

"Best Cop"? Kind of an oxymoron, isn't it?

Chuck Kalichun (spelling?) would be my pick from back in the day. Good cop, used common sense, good friend, just a easy going, no show-boating, low key sort of guy that did his job best he could and went home. I might be wrong on this but to my recollection he was the last HPD officer to be seriously wounded by gunshot in the line of duty. Happened back in the late 60's. He wound up taking a bullet in his guts from what started out to be a routine traffic stop. Chuck healed up and eventually went back to work. Kind of ironic, he survived a tour in Vietnam with an Airborne Infantry outfit only to come home and wind up getting shot while working as a policeman in sleepy little Ol' Henderson Ky.

Agree with back in the day, Chuck Kalichun, Don Farris, Hugh Stone, Paul Wilson, Gene Cooper. Real men and real cops. After them I'd agree with super1, the next generation Adams, Nevels, Duvall, Brandon and my favorite James Hendricks. I work in the court house and watch a lot of trials/court hearings. Not impressed with the current force. What ever happened to Adams and Nevels? I remember Duvall retired and moved to Owensboro.

Hilafarias, OK you like Welch but he has never done any police work, so he's a good guy but a worthless cop. Ask the other officer's that work with him what they think about him. Almost all of the force hates Welch and no one has anything to do with him. That is why he has a never leave your office job and doesn't work the street. If your a good cop and not a coward than you would want to be a cop instead of sitting in your office because your scared of criminals. To make up for his short comings he stabbs all the real cops in the back that are out on the street doing the job. I guess he thinks since none of his peers have any respect for him he will get a pat on the ass by the chief for screwing over other real cops. Welch never was nor will he ever be any kind of a cop.

How many old women do you have to beat up to be considered a "real cop"?
