Well, I'll be damn if I'm going to let some stranger come to my house and talk to my kids when I'm not at home.

As a teacher assistant the home blitz is volunteer time for me.. We are not required as school employees to even participate since it is volunteer time. Teachers are salary and can use that day as one of their professional days.. Other than lunch donated by the community there is no compensation.. Be grateful we care enough about your children and their success that we take time out of our summers to do extra work.

The only reason a parent would not welcome a visit from their child's teacher is if they have something to hide and don't want the teacher at their house. What she/he may smell the joint you just smoked and call child protective services or your home is a pig sty, not suitable for children to be living in. Some teachers care more about the child than some parents. Keep up the good job teachers. The mentality of some people, yes they want a hand out but don't want to be "inconvenienced" for 3 minutes.
