Joe,
Thanks for the clarification. My apologies for directing my comments towards you. As far as the rest of it goes, I think we all know that a small handful of people are pushing these enormous, unnecessary, and very expensive agenda items to further their own careers and pad their own pockets.
Why would little things like the safety of the citizens and the fair treatment of employees get in their way.

video tape them and send it to the news channels. that should stir up some great news. with so many people out of work, you would think the fire department would have its own weights....tax payer money put to good use!

Is bitterness and sarcasm the only way to express a point of view? Perception is one thing. Actual knowledge is a whole new concept for most. You can hide behind public perception and anything else you want but it's pretty clear that these topics do concern you as they concern me and and anybody else reading these posts.
It's obvious you don't understand much because if you did then you know that the local fire department DOES have paramedics. 10 of them in fact. Public information that can be learned at city council meetings. However, the city council has decided not to use them even though the fire department has put forth several options to use their own paramedics on fire engines. This of course would be the same council that complains about the fire department not having paramedics. Strange....... or is it just political back scratching? I don't know but since you're the public perception expert I'm sure you could tell me. There's some of your sarcasm right back at ya.
Also, please tell me what the entitlement is?
So what your saying is that the 10 medics employed in HEMET are not actually medics since the city counsel and the union have not come to any agreement in their classification. Can't claim a medic if they aren't allowed to function as one. Unless their classification has changed, starting an I.V. would be terms for assault.

I was at the gym yesterday trying to workout before I went to work. I found myself waiting on two machines being used by firefighters who were on-duty. How do I know they were on-duty? Cause two of them had walkie talkies that kept going off very loud. As I stood to wait my turn I wondered why I was waiting. Let's see, they are at work getting paid and I'm waiting on the machine? WTF? Why does this happen? It really is a joke when you think about it. I don't care if they do pushups and situps in to stay in shape at their station but stop going to the gym and making the rest of us stand and wait.
Your crazy!!!! Firemen are allowed one hour on duty PT everyday. If it was not a fireman you are waiting on, it would have been someone else!! They pay for their memberships just like you! You just a hater, your mad you did not become a fireman!!! To top it off, that's my husband your talking about!!!!!!!!!!

It amazes me how pathetic people are!!! How many times have you waited for a machine because a civilian is using it? You're just running your mouth because its a fireman. Get a freakin grip & realize you're not the only person on the planet. I can't wait until you really need fire or medic assistance & you're going to regret all of this.

They sure pay for membership. Usually for as many they seat on a fire engine (3). Three memberships to cover about 8 folks. By all means I think it's good that they care to work out than not. If Pumping iron wanted to be upset at anything it would be about the discount, but whining to perhaps pick another routine to keep busy is lame.

The 10 Certified Paramedics HFD has employed right now are not allowed to perform ALS (Advanced Life Support)Paramedic duties because there is not a Certified PROGRAM in HFD right now. There have been offers of a FREE Paramedic Program by AMR (American Medical Response), HVH (Hemet Valley Hospital), and another source (which I cannot recall right now) to the City for several years now. These offers include training and supplies, on an ongoing basis, at ZERO COST to the City of Hemet's citizens and taxpayers. Why have these offers not been accepted for many years, and why not NOW, especially? Perhaps a Council Member could answer that question. Most likely not the TRUE answer, but...

Chief Morris is now working out contracts with these groups offering the FREE programs, so that he can present the facts and actual legal documents framing these agreements to Hemet City Council and Manager.

If the TRUE difference between HFD and a Calfire "contract" IS money and/or Paramedics on engines, then the solution appears to be clear. Especially in light of the newly added $662,000 in "start-up" costs that Calfire has added to their bid. Not to mention the fact that the Calfire bid does NOT include facility OR equipment maintenance, which are part of HFD's budget, and have always been!

The 662,000 start up costs are part of Cal Fire contract right? I know when Cal Fire sends an RFP that they consider the costs of each employee at their maximum salary In each rank and include OT with that too. There Is only one contract city where they have came close to that Max but did not reach. What is HEMET Fire afraid of on going with Cal Fire if the department can't afford to offer ALS service? Is HEMET city considers a charter city? What does a HEMET FF make a year? Work schedule?

John.... I like the idea of having the fire and police depts. stay local. Im not sure that Cal Fire can give us the same response time. Im also concerned about future contract costs. HFD have passed up raises, kicked in more for their retirement and health benefits and I dont really see Cal Fire being so nice. Wasnt aware of the personnel staying the same, so that is a plus.
