I called the police due to an altercation with a neighbor who was getting high on my steps, assaulted me and then began walking down the street with a bottle of booze in his hand.

The police said they contacted the guy and he was not under the influence.

WTF, he was on my steps getting high, thats what the whole altercation was about, the stuff happens continually.

Whats with the police? They have been called numerous times and do nothing, they pulled up later in the evening about all the people hanging out and asked what was going on, they said something (about 5 words), the cop said ok and left.

My manager will do nothing, the cops will do nothing, I cant afford to move, I'm stuck with my family being in danger, the guy flips out and has destroyed his apartment, his electrical is faulty (jambs a screwdriver in a outlet for it to work).

Hemet is becoming a pile of sh!t.

If you are in Sun City, as your ID implies, why would you call Hemet police?

Get used to it. Citizen's chose their service level of public safety in Hemet. The City has cut police staff by 20 officers. Soon it will be like the other police and sheriffs and they may not even come to a disturbance call. Did you tell them you wanted to place your neighbor/friend under citizen's arrest? Probably not, you just wanted them to come in and save the day. Make all your neighborhood problems Ok. Do you live in a nice area or one that has a host of neighborhood issues? Never mind, I know the answer. The police can't get rid of all your section 8, dope smoking, no working neighbors. More officers will result in better service, the way it was when I first moved here. The cops are just if not more frustrated as you are about these issues. In 10 years, you won't recognize Hemet and our politician "leaders" don't have the vision or knowledge to fix it.

Actually I figured that smoking dope in public(or anywhere), having an open bottle of whiskey walking down the street and assaulting me would pretty much = dude getting arrested.

Moreover I was trying to make sure I annitiated the call to authorities so as to be in the clear.

As for a good part of Hemet, my area was pretty good till about 2yrs ago when the complex/home owners started renting to unsavory people just to make a buck.

I went to the station and they said the guy was drinking walking down the street but wasn't drunk so they just had him pour out his booze, no ticket or anything.

They said to just keep calling whenever something is up, not sure why if they wont do anything.

Sounds like the Hemet police are just another example of overpaid public employees.
With a why should I exert myself attitude.
No work ethic, no pride.
A honest days work would kill them.

How would HPD having more officers effected an arrest for the booze bottle carrying neighbor in this case?

Why don't you all get a scanner and listen to all the types of calls Hemet PD gets. They respond to all. Lots of business and home alarms. Parents who can't control their kids. Neighbors who can't get along. Little thugs who vandalize and fight. Domestic violence, mostly verbal. Then the mentally ill who hear voices and see people in their yard.

Most of the calls, to me, should not require a call to police. But, since our society is so ill because parents aren't parenting, adults aren't behaving responsibly and respectfully, situations become unmanageable.

I appreciate Hemet PD. Really, just listen to a scanner to hear the crap they have to deal with. The crap all Police Depts. have to deal with.

Society is truly in the toilet.

Read the original post. HPD was on the scene and did nothing. Has smoking weed or crack and drinking in the street has been de criminalized in this neighbor hood ?

Anyone who lives in one of the "getting shitty neighborhoods" needs to get a very large dog and display him prominently and often. Don't always look for the police to solve ALL your problems be proactive and defend your own property.I would turn my dogs on someone like that in a heartbeat because that is exactly what I bought them for. Home protection.

I find it interesting that "only126d" joins the forum and then immediatly posts a bad comment about Hemet police. Look at this Hemet Forum, 90% of it is crime related. From what I can tell the police do a great job. Arrest, hooker, murderers, rapists, just read the forum. Why not complain about Chilies and the slow waitress, or the doctor that took two hours to see you? Why do people think they can complain about cops all the time? They have a job that requires them to work nights, holidays, and try to clean up the community. Hey, I'm not trying to defend what happened on "Only's" front step, just think that they should be patted on the back for all the good work they do too that we nevfer hear about.

In the last year there has been a huge change in how the police in Hemet handle crime. I have had many a confrontation with people commiting crimes and the police were usually here in 5 minutes or less and would arrest the perps on the spot. Lately this is not the case, I try to keep my neighborhood clean and crime free for my family and take care of business when I can. The police departments slow response and lack of caring lately is showing. I've had many conversations with officers and they are not as enthusiastic as they used to be. Maybe it's partly because of situations like this guy I recently had to deal with. He got 4 days in jail and summary probation for manufacturing a weapon, concealed weapon, battery, resisting, animal cruelty with priors.

And does it really matter what my first post was about, do you really think life starts with your first post under a 'registered user name'??

They are not enthusiastic because the City Council has cut 29 officers in the last two years. I am close to many officers in a volunteer capacity and can tell you they are frustrated that the City Manager has them makes cuts, and keeps coming back for more. Their workload is increasing and they only have time to run from one call to the next. The residents in this City should be mad, but not at the cops. Oh and it's not Hemet PD's fault the guy got a light sentence. Do you really think they wouldn't rather have him gone forever?
