I have a better idea....How about all the unemployed people out there getting hand outs get jobs and pay taxes like the rest of us!
what jobs? people on unemployment already pay taxes on their unemployment.
companies are bailing out of this stateleft and right. Hershey company in san bernardino is leaving for Utah and laying off 90 people. you can thank arnold and his cronies for jacking up the tax rate. how do you feel now that you have to pay double vehicle registration? plus 9% tax?
I am one who is moving out of this state next month due to no jobs here. building casinos would be a great idea, it would bring in millions of dollars but it is too late to save this state. the people elected to run this state failed to draw in large companies.
oh well, at least califiornia will have one less tax payer: and it's me.

You're position is that bringing in a casino would solve the financial woes of this area? You're just as insane as the legislature!

Gambling is illegal in California. Even if it were legalized, you'd have people GAMBLING away their monies that they don't have!

The only way to save money is to stop spending it. It's basic Finance 101. Too many people in this state are living off the welfare teet. Too many illegals living free off of our money and system.

The only way to solve these issues is to stop spending on these programs. Create jobs and invest on infrastructure.

Stop paying people to sit at home and play games all day. Put prisoners to work fixing roads. Repair and replace worn out bridges and buildings by creating a new workforce.

The real problem is that people are too lazy to work. They want to start at the top of the ladder and that's not realistic. 100 Casinos would not make up the 9 BILLION DOLLAR shortfall.

Government needs to stop paying bureaucrats big money to sit on their hands. We need an intelligent budget and we need to scrap entitlement projects now!

Arizona will be in the same boat within the year! No one is exempt from these problems. We're just the first area to experience it and will probably be the last to recover.

Dean, You are 100 percent correct. Hemet had a chance to go paramedic but decided to go for cost savings. How is it that San Jac has Medics on all their rigs but Hemet doesn't? Hemet should throw in the towel and go to county fire-cheaper,better and more efficient. Do you think Hemet Fire could facilitate the emergency Winchester just had with their 4 station department. It is clear that places like LA County Fire absorb little broke fire departments like Hemet to save money and provide a better service for the deserving residents who are already paying a ton of taxes for a basic service.....Time to upgrade and make the switch Temecula,San Jacinto,Palm Desert,Indio,Indian Wells did and the list goes on. No on OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Shouldn't police department, fire department, emergency services, ect.. have been upgraded during our rich housing boom we experienced? IMO, These services should've been upgraded with the money negotiated from the developers, and made to run off of tax revenue generated by the new thousand of residents these housing developments brought in. Or did our city leaders fail us in this field? If so, we wouldn't be talking about this measure this early into our recession.

About the only way to start at the top is to brown-nose the political machine like
San Jacinto City councilman, Jim Ayres. The link between his $80, 000 county job and political connections and the fact that San Jacinto has contracted with RSO at almost three times the cost that the city last paid for operating their own police department about five years ago is crystal clear.

The truth is that SJ has financial problems just like any other city. Now, the city is partially living off of the $5.9 million that the State gave to maintain the part of State Hwy. 79 that was recently acquisitioned. The council has mortgaged the city’s financial future only to look good now. By then, Ayers et. al no doubt will hope to have won higher political positions and leave the problem for their poor constituents to deal with.

Well MaryEllen you stupid bitch now what? Scare tactics? Really? We closed a fire station lost 35 cops, and the library is rarely open. This city has gone to shit and people like you are now trying to find someone to blame. Everything they said was going to happen has. You started the thread so finish it with some brilliant comment about how the community is somehow better without the money that the measure would have brought in to support vital services that we now don't have.

You are an idiot!

Amen! I'd gladly pay more to have cops on every corner, and now we need them on every corner.

I concur 100% with practically the entire bloc of voters who intend to vote NO on this tax proposal which is another attempt to extort more revenue out of a poor community which did not deserve to get dumped on by Hemet's leaders the last 20 years. I personally saw the handwriting on the wall before Hemet went into the toilet. I was reassured if I purchased a home in West Hemet, a beautiful Temcula style shopping center would be build on the ground where the present Wal Mart stands. I was grossly misinformed about what was coming. After I plunked down my money I was informed Hemet was backing a new West Hemet Wal Mart. Being outraged I met with City officials to register my disgust with their decision. I warned them they would destroy Hemet and that existing businesses would leave. They all poopoo'd my complaints. Instead of listening to my "wise counsel" they arrogantly informed me the new Wal Mart would generate so much new city tax revenue, Hemet would have enough money for all its needs for years to come. That is the quality of decision making this city has gotten and now they want to shove another tax measure down our throats. Accountability demands these bozos all be fired immediately. The hell with the lot of them

If the city can't live within a budget, then the so called leaders need to be fired and replaced immediately with others who can. Granting a municipality, especially one like Hemet puts the city on a feedijng frenzy with the woeful results we witness all around us every day of the week. Someone put it beautifully. "Why would anyone want to shop in Hemet when you can enjoy a wonderful shopping experience and get heavenly surroundings, same or lower prices next door in Temecula?
