Did anyone read in the PE newspaper today about the City of Newport Beach arresting people who go through household trash? Good for Newport Beach. What started out as collecting aluminum cans has now turned into idenity theft and worse. I am sick and tired of looking out my window at 5:30 in the morning and seeing a guy with a flashlight going through my trash. Oh I'm sure the bleeding hearts will say leave them alone they are only trying to feed their families. Well guess what, they could be stealing alot more than your used trash. We are told to put our trash out by the curb on a certain day and we pay for this service. But yet someone with no authority feels he or she can go through my personal items. I resent that!!! Lets arrest them here in Riverside County too.

Why don't you chase them away if you are sick and tired of looking out your window at them at 5:30 in the morning.

I have yelled at them. My husband has yelled at them but they are there with their flashlights every trash day!!! They act like its their right to dig through my trash. Someone told us it is not against the law if the trash is at the curb, does anyone know that for sure? I guess we just wait until they use the info they found to make unauthorized purchases. Has anyone had to go through an ID theft investigation? It is time consuming and they act like you are the thief!!!

Why would you throw away papers with revealing information on it without shredding it first?
I do think that once it is on the curb, it is on public property and therefore is not unlawful for someone to rummage through it.

Next time you see them doing it, you should just call the cops. Whether it is illegal or not, cops like to flex their authority muscles. Just tell them they have drugs on them and you'll have 4 squad cars there in about 5 seconds flat.

The minute you put your trash on the curb it is now owned by the trash company. I have a realative that lives in Whittier. They pay $11 per onth for the trash company to recycle. Trash pickers come along and steal the recyclables. So they pay all that money for someone to steal from the company. Not fair.

Oh when I lived out at the EAST end of town, there was always a man going thru our trash on trash day. It was early in the morning too!! Hmmmm.
I finally got tired of yelling at him, and neighbors coming out looking. I just started turning the water hose on him. After a few times, he stopped, course he was cussing me out. But I never saw him again on our street.

That is a rip off; having to pay for recyclables! Technically your relative is paying for nothing!! Talk about a waste of money, right?

On my brown trash cans I put a weeks worth of dog crap(two dogs)on top before I bring it out to the curb. Also, I make it a point not to place personal info in without shreading.

As for the gray (recycle) can, if they are hurting that bad to collect the recycles in that can, than let them. Nothing in there but plastic, glass, and paper ( not personal ).

The green cans are green waste so they probably are not interested in those.

I use to have a problem with people going through my trash but I fixed that by climbing inside of the trash container after sitting it at the curb, then had my wife put the garbage bags on top of me. When somebody came by and opened the lid and started rummaging through my trash. You should have seen the surprised look on their face. When I grabbed their hand! I think they even had an accident in their pants. I laughed so hard as I watched them rum off down the street screaming! leaving behind a bag of recyclables.

Two weeks worth of dog crap! Boy your whole home must stink. I pity the neighbors. Nothing in that can but recyclables. Ain't that what they are usually looking for?

Your lucky he didn't have you arrested for assaulting him.
Spraying water on someone on purpose is considered assault.
You broke the law!

Like they said, the cops won't do anything so why should I worry about being arrested; the trash picker doesn't care so neither do I!

Grandma, put on your bifocals, I had written " a weeks worth". Meaning 1 weeks worth. My house is smelling like roses, and my neighbors are happy to have a neighbor us. Thank you for your concern.
My point on the recyclables was that I would rather see a person/persons/family turn in the recylces to feed their family than give it to the city. If it goes to put food in their childrens stomaches, than I'm good with that. Times are hard. I would rather see this than someone turn to crime to feed their family.

That's all I was getting at :).

Try This: You back yard may have roses but they probably smell like poop covered roses and urine grass. I hope you get foot fugus from all of the poop and urine your two dogs leave behind.
