Jun 5, 2010 | Posted by: roboblogger | Full story: Chain Store Age

New York City The California State Assembly on Wednesday narrowly approved a bill would make California the first state in the nation to ban single-use plastic and paper bags from being handed out free of charge at supermarkets, drug stores, convenience stores and liquor stores.

What about the plastic water bottles and drink bottles that is more of a problem and no end in site. I get a 25 cent credit at Grocery Outlet for my own bags. The issue is that they need to work on a larger recycle plan besides the homeless going thru peoples trash.
The Congress uses plastic bottles! I there a recycle plan for them?

Give them a return value like cans and bottles.

But to spend the money to form a new law is just silly. Dont we have enough BS laws?

you have evaded this question several times, perhaps because you do not know the answer.
What is your definition of a "con dumb" and what context are you using it?
Do youhave the ability to answer or are you going to be evasive as usual?

The banning of single use paper bags from being given out for free is a definitely a step in the right direction. Plastic bags are given out too freely now, with cashiers putting every thing in a bag, even single items like an apple or a banana. Given that it is assumed that most people use over 130 bags each year, it is essential that everyone starts making changes to be more environmentally conscious. The majority of the plastic bags used are not even recycled and instead sent to landfills, or worse, they wind up on beaches, roads, and sidewalks. Not to mention the thousands of blastic bags flouting in the ocean and consequentially effecting marine life.
This new law is going is the first step in making California and plastic-bag-free state.
I'd rather they redirect their efforts to making California a foreign-national-illegal alien free state. I
guarantee they do more damage than plastic shopping bags. Have you been to one of many illegal alien "lay over" spots in what used to be pristine desert ecosystems? Where does THAT register on their
Outrage Meter? But by ALL means - lets completely IGNORE that, and go after plaastic bags. Talk about misdirected priorities.

Banning plastic bags sounds like a good idea but it's not really practical. Plastic bags are really helpful if you have to rely on public transportation to get your groceries home, especially on rainy days and the times you buy meat with a lot of water, like chicken.
I reuse my plastic bags for trash liners and recyclables.

When I was younger milk came in recycleable glass bottles. They were cleaned and refilled with milk, and used over and over. Our groceries went into paper bags. Both of these items were recyclable, and glass bottles for water and milk would not impart plastic byproducts. Plastic is cheaper, common sense has gone out the door, plastic is recyclable also. Another scam to extract money from the little people.

I recycle my plastic bags as well. I also use them to pick up the dog poo. They hold up better than the paper bags do.

Folks,

you have to ask your self one question...?

Where will the extra tax money from this new law go...?

When you answer that question, you will then know who the actual crooks are trying to get into your pocket on this new tax.

And as Californians, are you going to just sit by and let your government continue to just suck money out of your pocket while you struggle to make a mortgage payment and feed your children.

Exactly when are you going to say "Enough is Enough?"

We should ban left wing political thinking or tax it to death.
Requiring bags to be bio-friendly is one thing but banning them or taxing them is just dumb
This country needs to wake up and get it's house in order or we will become the next USSR.

But on the other hand, what will it hurt? It would be better to bring your own bags than waste so much plastic.

I don't think the ban is for plastic bags that are being re-used. I do see your point, though. Maybe we should all start keeping a supply in the car!

I hear that people are leaving Cali in droves. The government in California just doesn't get it. They are doing the same thing in NY. In NJ, the gov. is cutting spending. Their(California's) priorities are so screwed up and backwards. San Francisco is a cesspool.....crime, murders, garbage in the streets, homeless bums everywhere. Look at Hussein's answer to the oil spill...tax offshore drilling more. Idiot.
