Lots more blacks in south central. Wonder why they didn't even make it on this list. Maybe they don't mind getting "rub" there.

You can't use just one source of data to prove this. However, we sure could use a lot of cleaning up. Just by observation you can draw your own conclusions to certain demigraphics. I know certain of our civic leaders don't think section 8 housing is a problem,(Kruppa) but why does Hemet have so many? You times how many households are section 8, by how many are in the family, 4 or 5 and that's a whole lot of people. How come we have so many parolees and child molesters? How come prostitutes are up and down Florida Ave?

Hate to burst your bubble, but meth is no doubt the biggest cause of the crimes and other social problems being committed in this town. You can't help but notice that 90% of the mugshots plastered in the Press Enterprise...all the perpetrators faces are peppered/littered with an assortment of pimples and cysts. Not to mention that the majority of crimes are taking place at all hours of the night when most law-abiding people are asleep.

Sure, sec 8 may have some of the these individuals in question, but sec 8 is nowhere near as big as a problem it is being made out to be.

Wanna clean up Hemet?...Then attack the root causes..namely meth as well as the relocation of violent parolees and sex offenders to this town.

Frankly, I'm kinda surprised that meth isn't being talked about as a large contributor of Hemet's crime and social woes.

The original CQ study showed St. Louis was #1. Someone erased it and put in Hemet as a joke.

HIGH NUMBER OF RELEASED INMATES IN HEMET (Edited for space)

HERITAGERANCH.US/INMATES/Writt en by JESSICA SELF

About one-third of inmates released from custody at the Southwest Detention Center under Gov. Jerry Brown's cost reduction program end up in Hemet and there are too few officers to track their whereabouts and activities, says Hemet Sgt. Jim Anderson, who is in charge of a task force dedicated to the patrol of the released inmates. "Basically one out of every three inmates released out of Southwest are coming to Hemet," Anderson said in a presentation to the Hemet City Council Tuesday.

In Anderson's report, he said the inmates being released back into Riverside County are not harmless. Since the bill was passed, 144 inmates have been released back into Hemet and 49 into San Jacinto. According to Anderson, the inmates released have had serious crime violations, including crimes of a sexual nature and violent crimes.

"The problem is it doesn't matter what their past record is, their release is based on the crime they are currently in custody for," Anderson said. "If they are out on parole for a serious crime and get caught with meth and are put back into custody, they are being released based on that meth charge. Our first arrest in Hemet had 22 prior parole violations."

As of March 2, nearly 2,000 inmates had been released back into Riverside County's care. Hemet has attracted the third largest amount of released inmates in the county. By July, Anderson predicts there will be 220 inmates in Hemet and its surrounding areas.

Councilman Larry Smith pointed out that inmates are likely returning to the place in which they were initially taken into custody.

"What this says about Hemet is we have a very proactive police department who makes a high number of arrests," Smith said. "Now we are practically being punished for that."
There is only one team assisting in patrol for AB 109 inmates for all of Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Hemet, Beaumont, and Palm Springs.
Hemet has four armed and two unarmed officers working to resolve AB 109 issues. This includes checking bad addresses and making compliance checks. Thus far, the team has found 61 bad addresses, made 15 arrests, served 18 search warrants, seized seven firearms, and collected approximately $10,000 worth of stolen property from AB 109 probationers.
"Last week alone we were given eight or nine probationers on a warrant list for Hemet and every single one had a bad address," Anderson said. "We have no idea where they are."
Anderson said with the growing number of probationers released, an estimated 2,500 by July, it will be impossible for the team to check all of them.
"On a good day, we can get to about 12," Anderson said. "One task force team plus probation officers versus the number of probationers, it just doesn't add up."
Anderson said the county sends officers out with a list of targets, but because of so many false addresses for the released inmates, it takes much longer to actually find them.
"I was looking at the numbers and I was flabbergasted," said Hemet Mayor Robert Youssef. "There are nearly 200 in the valley. We are being punished for our active police department making arrests." Anderson agreed that the city of Hemet has a very high arrest rate compared to other cities in the county.

"Some of the probationers we checked did have jobs and were working as productive citizens," Anderson said. "But that was a very small number."

Anderson said funding for a second year of continued surveillance over those released by AB 109 should be provided by the state.
"There is a nine person commission at the county level which decides where those who are released go with no local representatives," Smith said. "We need to have a local representative on that commission to say 'whoa, how many of these people are we going to dump into this city' We should not be punished for good work. We need more local control, not to rollover and allow this to happen to us."
