Spirit of Joy Church, 3126 West Johnston, West Hemet is hosting a fundraiser for the Valley Restart homeless shelter. There will be up to 50 vendors, food, cars and no cost for admission.
It's one thing for the City of Hemet to condone this beleaguered homeless shelter at it's established location on Menlo. We know where they are and we can keep our kids safely away from there. But, who's bright idea to invite the Valley Restart homeless element into my backyard?
Is wise to bring that element clear across town and schedule this event in a family neighborhood of single family residences and children? Or, is this courting disaster? What do you think?
Yes
No
Who cares anymore?
Time to move out of Hemet?

Hemet is a haven for the down and out....god bless em but damn there are walkers everywhere. Have you looked into Weston park lately? Homeless encampments all over this town too. Wish the police would enforce vagrancy & loitering laws. This valley has been very inviting to them and with all the accommodations, a hassle free stoned out existence is guaranteed.

The State of California is recently mandated to release thousands of dangerous parolees into the wild, due to prison overcrowding. Guess where they're landing?

Imagine that, a church group reaching out to those less fortunate and trying to show a bit of humanity. What is this world coming to?

Imagine this - a church inviting the homeless into YOUR backyard for a BBQ.
I've seen enough crooked churches and pastors to be skeptical of what is taking place in the San Jacinto Valley, ie: Tammy Faye and Jim Bakker. It's irksome that churches are tax exempt and BIG BUSINESSES. It's also irksome that they mix church and state and utilize tax supported public resources and facilities to conduct Sunday service - public schools, etc. Doesn't it make you wonder how some of these "pastors" can afford to live in the high end houses that they buy in Hemet? Don't let the wool be pulled over your eyes by the high volume of sanctimonious bible thumpers in the valley who "get religion" in prison and come to Hemet - where there's a church in every strip mall run by parolees. The San Jacinto Valley is saturated with churches that don't pay taxes. Don't kid yourself - all the "gimmee" churches, thrift stores and county services set up in the valley make it a mighty attractive destination for the homeless to settle in. Good luck with that. Call me a NIMBY.

That's quite a broad brushstroke which begs the question; who exactly are your "irked" at? Is it the churches, the pastors, the judicial system, the tax statutes or all of the above? I'd say you're beyond skeptical, you're paranoid. You're implying that all churches and pastors are less than honorable, whereas, some people perform acts of kindness simply because they have empathy for another human being. To suggest that I'm gullible because I don't agree with you is a bit extreme as I'm well aware of the injustices in today's society. The difference between you and me is that I choose my battles and life, in general, seems to be your battle. By the way, big business is not tax "exempt". Wake up and die right! People are struggling, it's a common theme and it's in all our backyards!

"Valley Restart provides services to residents of Mid and Southwest Riverside County" according to THEIR website.

It's in Hemet's backyard because people like you invite and welcome this element into our neighborhoods. 30 years ago, Valley Restart received funding through an ambitious grant writing campaign which awarded funds to keep the homeless shelter's doors open. In return, Valley Restart agreed to accept parolees and homeless from the inner cities. The San Jacinto Valley caters to one of the largest pedophile populations in the state. Or haven't you noticed the "We ARE Watching" signs? Local churches pander to Valley Restart. I suggest that after Sunday services, these empty, big box church buildings shelter the homeless. That would be a great use of that wasted square footage that sits vacant Monday through Saturday. Churches could house the homeless and serve them meals right there on the premesis and eliminate the middle man - Valley Restart. Riverside County has designated Hemet as the dumping ground for felons and parolees. Go ahead and continue to roll out the red carpet for criminals, drugees, and gangsta's to people your pews. Take your "acts of kindness" back to MoValley, San Berdoo and Compton. Wake up to the destruction and demise of Hemet.

Imagine a decent town - my hometown - turned into a dumping ground for the "less fortunate" by Valley Restart pastors and church groups "reaching out" to the State of California prison systems for the upcoming massive release of dangerous felons. Come on Hemet! Where's your kindness? Show a little more humanity!

get the phuking homeless pedos parolee felons OUT OF HEMET NOW! maybe the staff can get real jobs somewhere instead of importing cdc cons to fill their state funded vouchers.

VRS is a partnership of the public, private, and religious sectors of the San Jacinto Valley. Many local businesses support our efforts along with a myriad of government agencies including: The Riverside County Departments of Public Social Services, Mental Health, Riverside County Sheriffs Department, City of Hemet Police and local service organizations. There is input into operations from the San Jacinto Valley Homeless Task Force, the Human Relations Council, Riverside County Housing and Homeless Continuum of Care, Adult Systems of Care, and the Interfaith Council.

Leaders of area faith-based and service groups collaborate their efforts to ensure that certain needs are met. These include volunteering, providing home cooked meals each night, fund raising activities throughout the area, and donations to our participants as well as to the Shelter in general.
Ultimately we hope to help our participants break the cycle of homelessness. Using intensive case management, we provide individualized referrals and support, life skills training, and job-finding skills.

What good are job-finding skills in a place like Hemet?
The problem with our town, Chris, is all of the above.

I invite no one! People like you tend to think that every homeless person is a drug crazed ex-con pedophile. I'm no more tolerant than you when it comes to the low-life scum that inhabit every city, however, if you're so pissed about it why not get off your ass and do something about as opposed lashing out at people you know nothing about. To answer your question, no I haven't seen your "We ARE Watching" signs, and these signs that you're so proud of apparently are not much of a deterrent. Maybe you need more signs!! Oh, and just for the record, I don't and never have lived in "MoValley, San Berdoo or Compton", I don't attend church, I'm not black, I don't do drugs, I've never been arrested, I'm not homeless, I'm gainfully employed, no I'm none of those things you despise. Sorry to burst your bubble.
