This is an outrage! What is happening in Indian Trail? I thought we lived in a small, safe town. We need to be more involved in our community and become "neighbors" again. Encourage your neighbors to start crime watches. Be observant to those moving in and out of the neighborhood. Lets try to come together and move in the right direction of preventing these terrors.

I'm very surprised that crime has moved to Union County. Just a few weeks ago, I read about the drive-by shooting not far from where I live. It makes me worry about the safety that was thought of Indian Trail. A suggestion for more police force must be done,ie. Crime Watch by neighbors and by the force as well.

My thoughts and prayers are with the family and neighbors. I live in Crismark, down the street, you hear about "these things" in other places, It's a lot harder when it happens to the kids you see playing on your streets.

I had the priviledge of getting to know those kids and I am very shoked about the news. Ryan was an amazing soccer player. May god bless those two little angels.

As I have stated before, our police force needs to consist of more than a fat-ass Union County Deputy Sheriff sitting in downtown Indian Trail on Saturday morning looking for someone without a seatbelt on while eating a damn Bruster's ice cream cone.

I agree that we need more of a police force. They are building these super communities and aren't accomodating with the correct number of police. "Not so happy" is correct also- neighbors do need to get involved. I live in Crismark-we had two Community Watch meetings, and both times only about 20 people showed up. It was sad.

Why do these people always kill their kids to? Just shoot yourself. There is no need to kill your children. I am sure there were plenty of people, including myself, who would have been glad to take these kids to raise. What a piece of shit.

We never know what happened privately behind closed doors with this family. Maybe the mom was too overwhelmed with life and didn't want to leave her kids behind.
It is tragic. Our hearts go out to the ones left behind and the many children at school that will have to cope with this as well.

Hemby Bridge Elementary has had a lot to cope with. The house fire that killed the Parry sisters and now this senseless killing of the Sherling kids by their own mother.

We have all had enough of the senseless killing of children. Especially by a parent. Did someone not notice any warning signs of the mothers instability? Was she under psychological treatment? Who really dropped the ball here? How screwed up does someone have to be to believe that their children are better off dead than living life without them?

I knew these children very well. I never met the Mother because the children were always with thier babysitter. The children were so sweet and they would come over all the time.

No one will ever know what on in Amanda's mind that day. Perhap's she believed her children would be in a better place. These children had a father where was he?? was he unaware of possible problems with her emotional state? the woman had a gun ...maybe she was afraid of her ex-husband??? As someone who actually knew her I really want to believe she was trying to save them in some bizarre way I'm not saying there is any way to rationalize killing one's own children but the human mind is complicated yet fragile she was devoted to those kids, maybe so devoted that she went to the ultimate extreme to protect them from an abuser or a cruel world ( in her view )
I am just sorry that she felt she had no alternative.... her family and friends are devastated and left to try to understand

He reported them missing after exhausted all options in finding them. He went to the house Friday after failing to get in touch with his ex-wife and again Saturday. Are you insinuating that Mr. Sherland is partially to blame for this piece of shit blowing her kids brains out?
