NO! This incident had nothing to do with racial slurs or 6 black boys or a noose. It had to do with the accused having the tires on his car flattened one day and being told the next day that the victim (who happens to be white) may have been the culprit.

Rather than engaging in conversation with the white kid, however, Purvis decided he would grab him by the neck, slam his head onto a table so that he could have his undivided attention while telling him that he should never touch Purvis’ car again. All of this is according to the police report.

Anger management training is in his future.

It doesn't matter what color they are, if these young people aren't taught that they must be responsible for their own actions by the time they are adults, they are doomed to be another generation lost to the cycle of crime and prison.

I totally agree. My parents instructed me and my brother to walk away from physcial fights. Although it did nothing for my self-esteem as a teenager (peer pressue), I truely believe THAT teaching saved us from years of adult life heartache and disappointment. I now instruct my daughter to choose her lifes battles wisely; know when to stand-up, and know when to walk away. A prison sentence (or worse) is not worth a few seconds of false pride.

Return to the original crime. The white boys were wrong to have hung a noose on a tree--there should have never been a "special place" on school gronds for just whites/blacks. It was wrong for the Jena Six to beat up the white boy, the judicial system should not have put juveniles in adult court and two of the Jena Six should not have presented an award at the music event. There was never "a right" in this situation. I am an "old hippie" that marched for equal rights for blacks, women, etc. For the most the blacks and whites get along in Louisiana. For all that waste so much time hating others---it will make you old and mean ---but hey--everbody has "the right" to their own opinion.
