Our republican gov. is seeing fit to close parks in Oklahoma. The thing is this will hurt Heavener in many ways. This park helps out the businesses in Heavener. And more importantly it has been a huge part of Heavener for many years. Families gather there for reunions, cookouts, fund raisers all kinds of things. They say there are over 100,000 people that comes there every year. Then that it proof enough they need to keep it open. Heavener Schools even have football and band cookouts at the Runestone. We pay taxes to keep this park open. KEEP THE RUNESTONE OPEN!

The Department of Tourism has been talking of closing Some State Parks for several years because of the cost in operating them.

Some groups may be willing to pay a fee to use the park but I doubt more than a few would be willing to pay an admission.

If 100,000 people visit the park every year, that averages out to about 30 people an hour every day.

Past administrations have overspent and over promised and we just do not have the money now to pay for all of it.

Cuts have to be made and they have to start somewhere. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Craig Hall of the LeFlore County Journal is reporting there will be a Town Hall Meeting at the Heavener City Hall Friday at 6pm.

Representative Lockhart has asked people from the department of tourism to attend.

Maybe they will go away when CASC starts charging an admission to visit the park.
