The other day, I was almost hit by a speeding cruiser. Yes he did have his lights and sirens on, but it was very quick and unexpected. I could've been killed. Is this legal?

If you have to ask this question, you probably shouldn't have a license to drive a car.

The reason they have the lights and sirens is to alert other motorists to get the h*** out of their way. Sadly, too many do not.

As for the 'quick and unexpected' part, if you cannot hear the siren of a police car or a fire engine soon enough to get out of the way, maybe you should turn A) your radio down B) your hearing aide up or C) your license in.

It's a valid question. Is it illegal for them to speed?

If one of your loved ones was killed by a speeding cruiser I think your answer might be different.

Fine. If you really need a monosyllabic answer, that answer is yes.

They're FIRST RESPONDERS, you idiot. They're the ones who go to HELP your loved ones when they need help. Your only task, which apparently you're unwilling to complete, is to get out of the way.

It is legal for them to drive as fast as they safely can when responding to an emergency.

Drivers of emergency vehicles can be cited if they do not use good judgement, but 9 times out of 10, it is the civilian driver who is not paying attention to an unusual situation that causes an incident.

A few years ago they did a National Poll and found that Massachusetts drivers were among the 'WORST' in the country. For anyone who is old enough to have a license to even ask that question-'YOU JUST PROVED THE POLL WAS RIGHT'!

You know,I was just driving down the runway at the airport and a plane almost hit me! Are they just supposed to come down and land right on the runway like that without any warning? Should'nt he have blown his horn or flashed his lights or something..? Geez.

these jerks recklessley break the law by speeding and doing other things every day and should be held responsible for the very things that they accuse everyone else of doing every single day they are out there on the road pretending to be better then everyone else

I love to drive and have driven most of my life. Even when there is nowhere to go,I'll just drive around for no apparent reason. But,I take driving seriously. And although,I am not perfect,I am aware that I am driving a three or four thousand pound vehicle and can do an awful lot of damage if I'm not paying attention. Like most people,I have my days when I've got my head somewhere else, but most of the time I am a very conscientious driver, and am usually aware of what's going on around me. I also always use my turn signals, which, for some reason, seems to be something that's kind of rare around here. Even more troubling is how most of the people driving City vehicles don't drive very well, pulling right out into traffic without looking or not useing their signals to let other drivers know what their intentions are. However, that is peanuts in comparison to some of the people who plow snow, both City workers and private citizens. Most nights after a snowstorm its like a free-for-all out there, with trucks flying in and out of driveways and around parkinglots like somebody has a gun to the driver's head! It's dangerous enough on the road when the weather is good, but after a heavy snowstorm, with snow and ice and people driving like they're in a Bruce Willis movie, its a 'MADHOUSE'. I think some of these drivers need to be told that because their trucks have those orange or yellow revolving lights on the roofs of their cabs, that does not give them the right to do whatever they want, including running Stop signs, pulling out into traffic or running other vehicles off the road. I hate to be the one to break it to you,but-'YOU'RE NOT AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE'! No matter what you think, removing snow is not a life and death task, except when you guys make it one by driving the way you do. Police cars, firetrucks, ambulances and E.M.T. vehicles are used for 'EMERGENCIES',like fires, people falling ill and car crashes, that's why they have 'LIGHTS' and 'SIRENS'. But people plowing snow do not,to my knowledge anyway, fall in the catagory of 'FIRST RESPONDERS'! Unless there is someone trapped under an avalanche, snow removal is not necessarily considered an 'EMERGENCY'! And while I understand that some of you are trying to make a living plowing snow, and the more places you plow, the more money you make, that does'nt give any of you the right to drive like 'Mad Men'. I don't care how many places you have to plow,or what color lights you have on your truck,or how many lights you have on your truck, you don't have the right to flaunt the rules of the road! As far as those who drive City vehicles, you represent the City, whatever City that might be,and are supposed to be setting an 'example',especially,if you are driving a 'Police Cruiser'. How can you expect to ignore the rules of the road, and then ticket someone else when they do it? The best one I saw was years ago when I saw one of those big City dump trucks with the orange revolving lights hauling a load of dirt. I guess it must've been an 'Emergency Load of Dity' or something. I think when you get behind the wheel 'TWO WORDS' should come to mind-"COMMON SENSE"!

its related to a question on your permit test and you have to ask whether an emergency vehicle has the right of way and you must pull over?

A) turn your radio down
B) turn your hearing aide up
C) turn your license in

given this to be, i do not believe C) is and option as you likely do not have a license to begin with. so that leaves us with A) or B). would find it hard to believe that an elderly person wouldn't know the answer to such a ridiculous question so that leaves B) out. so now we are left with A). what is the genre you most prefer. maybe we can help you there because telling you that emergency vehicles have the right of way is surely not to succeed.

is this indeed occurring during the time in which you have your music too loud? after all, that is a fine in itself. you are the one being dangerous not being able to hear your surroundings. and if this is not the case, you should at ALL times be aware of your surroundings, whether that mean the other drivers as well as yourself.

dont bother getting a license if you do not know the most common knowledge.

oh and just a reminder: always pull to the right no matter how many lanes as most are confused in multiple lane highways. emergency vehicles will always travel in the fast lane, the leftmost if you cant already figure that out.

No need to pull over. Just speed up and drive faster than they are. Problem solved.

Just so all the retarded people on this post know, speed limits are not just posted so people can pull over when there are emergencies....you have to realize there are also residential zones where kids and pets actively play near the street...my street is posted at 25 mph. A fire truck doing 60 is not safe in any way, even if they are rushing so save people.

It should be quite legal to run down any butthead J walker. I was in North Adumbs today and some fat pregnant three toothed hog pushed her illigetemate kid #1 right out in front of a line of cars at main and Marshall and then started to give sheet to me because I wouldn't let the guttersnipe J walk at the bussiest intersection in North Adumbs.
