Has anyone thought to ask JBIII why MCAS scores are deficient? Could it be a result of teachers being underpaid for the entire time he was mayor? Who would want to teach in a city with some of the lowest pay in the state for educators? He says he's for the kids, but his track record sure doesn't support that!!
They are low paid for a reason

Those who can, do
Those who can't, teach
Those who can't teach, teach gym

The School Committee never voted to approve the renovation of Conte Middle School. You should check your facts as endorsing the efforts of of the building committee is nothing more than that. How can you vote to approve in Feb of 2012 when the state did not give approval till Nov of 2012. And the decision of the School Committee can also be challenged but that is a moot point. They will get the signatures and then some. Contrary to what the poll in the Transcript and poll on this site say it is not being well received by the silent majority out there
You are incorrect; the School Committee, not the School Building Committee, already voted to approve the Conte project. Now, it simply needs to vote on the plans.

Are you serious? JB3 did all he could for the teachers around here for along time. What did he and the tax payers get for his efforts?. Not much!!! More like teachers always say, Were all in for the kids and the results show different.

jb certainly did all 'he could do for the teachers' and the other city employess by not funding the medical insurance trust properly, in effect overcharging the employess

The no tax increase part is sellable--but how many people are enthused enough for the deal to go out and vote for it? In a referendum the anti's have the edge-after all it is designed to vote no--Barrett should support this--no it's not his preference but it does solve the facility issue--and he's ranting about MCAS-----that's a red herring--claims that curriculum stuff that was Iguess mentioned in the Locke study he commissioned has been ignored---curriculum has little to do with structure

You must have been the "slow kid" in the class that needs someone to blame for your underachievements. I have never met a teacher (other than gym teachers) that took joy in a child's fail. A teacher usually blames themselves when they can not get through to a child.

Your wish of horrible harm makes you someone that should be looked into by local authorities. You should never be allowed to enter any school. Scary freak!

Thank you- those were minutes as opposed to a chart- that is what I got off the other link--as I take it the motion to endorse- which was passed unanimpusly was to authorize the school building committee to forward their recommendation to the Mayor and City Council--or wasit to let the State scholl building authority to proceed in its deliberations and evaluation??

Okay... I understand that you are the Letterman of sorts. But, do you find the nasty comments that seems threatening to teachers acceptable? I find it creepy. Too many "chits" going on that ends up on the news.

You're welcome. The School Committee approved the renovation of Conte, and forwarded that vote to the State, which then authorized the funding at a later date.

Yes I do-- there are several in the system that I had in class-- and over the years a good deal more--many of these teachers are from the area and want to stay here- so any insinuation that they are lay abouts who couldn't get a job elsewhere are bogus--although in reality schools like to hire people with local ties--I have had top notch students and some not so much in the NA system---but they have been competent and enthusiastic and are good teachers--I have also had stucents who went on to other schools in the area--and all have done well- in spite of the Ed program at MCLA---it has been many moons since I taught at the High School level--so my frame of reference is obviously from my college classes---but there are students who are lazy- never prepare-wish they were some place else other than class--and there are the students who prepare work hard and produce----and I take no credit or blame for either---it is more about their personal responsibility and personal drive than it is about me- or any other teacher--some may be inspired by the teacher- others amy not be--but it is less about the teacher than the student--- and let's not forget the brain pool--some students are brighter than others but that's not the be-all and end-all--I have had very bright- lazy students and some not-so bright hard working students--but on the local level -a lot depends on their acculturation--and by that I mean their home environment--are they encoursged to learn and succeed--that does make a difference--I have always been a firm believer in equal opportunity--but not in equal results
