Well I started this thread--and so far no junk stuff--my take-- IF still on the Council is that I would vote against it---not because of financial issues---but I just don't feel right about it--usually I would present a rational argument on an issue--I can't here--it's a gut feeling---maybe in my retirement I have watched too many re-runs of NCIS--and have acquired Leroy Jethro Gibbs gut feeling thingie---but it just doesn't feel right for me

Best that I can do--embarrassed? yes because I always had a rational argument---but not here--maybe it's the Dreary Drury syndrom--both my boys went there and that was their attitude--even if the inside is spiffied up the outside is still going to Dreary

Even if I had voted no if on Council I would not be out there gathering signatures----strange since this is a tax issue- and no one got so bent out of shape over the sewer fee that they tried to put that on the ballot--the Conte issue has opposition for legit reasons but mostly it's anti Alcombright

How will the state react to this after this lengthy process after already approved it? Do you think they will allow a new school right away, or put us on the end of the list several years? How does the city cover the hefty expenses needed to bring Sullivan up to code and preserve Conte from collapsing without state assistance. I heard the roof needs replacement very soon and Sullivan needs major furnace, plumbing, windows and ADA work.

So, if the petition succeeds, the very people who started it and signed it will be raising holy hell about having to pay for whatever alternate plan is used. Nay-Sayers can't be pleased. It's the nature of the beast.

well of course if the referendum overturns the Council vote-- it won't go forward---bottom of the list---and it would cost plenty to fix those problems that you cite----

I watched all the meetings where the inspecters presented their findings of all the schools and they thought Conte was the best option.
I just do not understand the mindset of those opposed to the Conte project. This whole issue should be about educating the children in a safe building. Thrse opposers seem to have an agenda against our elected officials and not the betterment of our childrens' futures.

No, Conte is not the best option. Fixing the other 2 issue. Difference of opinion. Only DA supporters think it is personal. If you oppose DA, according to them it is personal.

If you opposed the over ride it was personal...etc

None of this matters. Nearly 3/4 of the students in North Adams are on welfare. You could teach them at the Taj Mahal, and they'd still be barely able to learn. The problem is the students and their welfare taking, irresponsible parents. It'll take a generation to change the loser culture in north Adams. So lie to yourselves about how great your city is, everyone else knows how horrible it truly is.

I think that DA originally wanted the two school solution but that option was negated--I think I finally figured out my opposition--Bona is for it

So fix Sullivan....sell Conte to something...use that money to fix Greylock.

That great idea for a cost of $0.00
