Why did the North Adams Transcript delete the forum on 3 three officers who supposely being attacked. What are they coving this up. Do your job and report the news and let people speak. stop filtering the forum to the cities and your benefit. Time for the attorney general to step in and clean up the corruption. This paper should be boycotted. MAYOR take notice!!!! DO SOMETHING

Look guys there is a perfectly reasonable explanation. All the people that work at the transcript are pathological liars ok.

So when you read a story they write and believe it then find you've been misinformed should you be mad at them? No you should be mad at yourself for believing them in the first place.

Even the transcripts own help wanted ad is yellowed with obvious lies and misinformation. Its sad and amusing that people pay money for the transcript.

Well, maybe some people don't mind paying for things they use - unlike the freeloading boobs of the world who expect everything to be handed to them in their version of 'reality.':-)

I though Topix was a seperate from the transcript?? either topix pays the transcript for access to the stories or vice versa. regardless I love reading the topix forums, it's more entertaining than comedy shows. but if the transcript are going to pick and choose what stories to let remain on the forum, they should just pull them all. kinda like the eagle just did.

As bad as the Transcript may be according to some people writing in here, they still are nothing compared to the Berkshire Eagle that recently stopped all blogging on their website with the excuse that there were too many rude people leaving comments. It's true there were some rude people (mainly teenagers in my opinion), but they didn't have to eliminate the entire comments board. Some rudeness unfortunately comes with the territory with a comment board.

I recently praised the Transcript for not following the Eagle's example and shutting down this comments board. At least they haven't yet.

Cops don't like negative attention and will make life very hard for those who bring it. Since they legally cannot get the Topix i.p. data without cause, I would bet they let the Transcript know they were none too pleased with the tone of the discussion on the thread and "got legal."

Regardless of the merits, or lack thereof, in the case surrounding the fight at Key West, if you accuse a cop of doing something wrong, you'd better be prepared to come under "strict scrutiny."

Yes, it might be an abuse of power, but not on the part of Transcript. They are in no position for a legal battle.

The Transcript should return a bit of class back to their paper and eliminate Topix period! What is the story Glen, no juice with the boys in Pittsfield or are really in favor of Topix?

The paper may be covering something up, but if you really believe that, then why not voice your objection here, and say why you object, and sooner or later the truth will come out if enough pressure is put on the paper.

It's not Drohan's call. It is the publisher's.

Topix drives web traffic and web traffic drives advertising. It's a money decision, plain and simple.

We eliminated the police thread because of nasty and potentially libelous statements.

We have discussed eliminating the Topix forum altogether but have for the time being agreed to keep it as a potentially valuable discussion board. This may change because there are a few people out there who like to spoil things for everyone or who believe commenting anonymously gives them the right to make racist statements, charge people with crimes or be generally insulting. That is not the case.

We have been policing the comments as best we can, thanks in part to those who flag inappropriate comments. If keeping at least some semblance of civility becomes too much of a chore, we will indeed end the forum. It's in your hands.

After the comments about The Fresh air kids and The Mayor's wife, Topix should be pulled. TOPIX CAN'T BE POLICED, SO IT SHOULDN'T BE ALLOWED!!!!

You want to know what people think here you go this is it! You may not like topix but you see what people think verses what they say publicly.

I agree with you. It's a lot easier to say something if you don't have to worry about retaliation. Granted, some people are just jerks, but it's pretty easy to dismiss what they say as false, and if you have any questions about a post, there are many ways to check it out.

It would be nice if people who abuse the privilege of posting, could either be banned, or their name or email addresss could be put at the end of their post by the moderator. That might clean things up a little. I know other forums ban people when they go too far. Topix can be a good place to discuss issues, but every thread usually turns into a free for all brawl

And by the way, I just renewed my annual subscription to the Transcript. They can't provide news if we don't support them
