Dan will come to his senses after he dips his toes in the water. He will find out he has no support in Central or Southern Berkshire County. My guess, you are stuck with him for now North Berkshire.

Fat Dan is just getting some free press.A Politician once told me. Get your name in the paper as often as possible, even if you have to get arrested to do it.That was years ago,but it's truer now than it was back then.Dan will play the press like a fiddle, but he most likely will not venture a run for Sheriff. He's to smart for that !!

Yeah, it's really tough for a Liberal Democrat in the Berkshires to get his name in The Berkshire Eagle.

To anyone and everyone in Berkshire County who is interested in filing nomination papers for the $130,000 per year elected position of Berkshire County Sheriff, please read the following.
This is excerpted from: M.G.L. Chapter 53: Section 48.
PART I. ADMINISTRATION OF THE GOVERNMENT
TITLE VIII. ELECTIONS
CHAPTER 53. NOMINATIONS, QUESTIONS TO BE SUBMITTED TO THE VOTERS, PRIMARIES AND CAUCUSES
PROVISIONS APPLYING TO STATE PRIMARIES
Chapter 53: Section 48. Nomination papers; certificates of nomination; filing; political party membership; term limits
Section 48.
"........All certificates of nomination and nomination papers of candidates for the office of state representative, state senator, executive council, or county office shall be filed with the state secretary on or before the last Tuesday in May of the year in which a state election is to be held......... The state secretary shall forthwith issue to the candidate or other person filing such nomination papers a certificate acknowledging the time and date of the receipt thereof."

To all reading this: If anyone, male or female, young or old, experienced politician or inexperienced novice, partisan party hack or independent newby, wishes to run for this office (and law enforcement experience is NOT required to run for Berkshire County Sheriff), get your paperwork in EARLY (so as to be on the safe side in case you don't have everything and every paper perfectly in order).
Check with the Mass. Secretary of State's office to verify exactly what your nomination papers must include as well as exactly how many signatures are needed, and from how many Berkshire towns, and how they must be certified and by whom they must be certified (usually by the town clerk in each town where the signature of a resident has been obtained), etc..

This is an open county seat so ANYONE with the proper residency has a right to run in this election contest (This explains why so many of the local politicos in the know are now announcing their respective intentions to run for this choice and powerful seat!), but one must have his/her nomination papers certified and filed ON TIME!

Good luck and may the best candidate win!

Are you kidding? He has no support up here either. We need to vote all the do nothing bum's out. None of them has done the job they were put there to do. Headline grabbers, is all they are. I for one, would like to see new faces across the board, and term limits for everyone.

There must be some honest non-political-hack-affiliated local residents who could use an extra $130K annually with full health and dental benefits.
(Not sure, but I think health and dental also apply to the spouse and children of the office holder -- this being Massachusetts!)

Think about it, just what did Carmen Massimiano do on an average day at the office for 30+ years (other than to drive there in a state-provided vehicle)?

Time to get this office into the hands of a fresh new face!
