NO excuse? You can't think of even ONE reason where someone might be justified in taking the life of a deer?
You obviously have led a very sheltered and fortunate life. But please don't let that cloud your thinking and make you believe that you know what is right and apropriate for OTHERS.
Classic liberal Mass. democRAT.
I wasn't questioning the act of taking a deers life. I was questioning the act of doing it illegally.
What do you suppose would happen to the deer population if the year round taking of deer was allowed? How long do you think it would take for the population to drop to zero?
The hunting laws are there for a reason and it isn't to deprive citizens of the right to feed their families.

No one owns the game animals that we hunt but we trust and employ our fish and game officials to manage and conservate our natural resources so they are not over hunted and abused. To allow the year round taking of all game animals would be irresponsible and detrimental to the populations of these animals.

The variety of game and seasons is plentiful enough for anyone to feed their families if they choose to. The state also has hundreds of square miles of public lands that anyone with a license can hunt on and the funds recieved for these licenses is what helps pay for these public lands. If your having trouble finding land to hunt that isn't crowded then your not trying hard enough. I hunt much of the year and rarely am crowded or even see other hunters.

people used to hunt year round for thousands of years-and if you are a hunter than you know hunters are the ones actually practicing conservationalism. they aren't (and never have) trying to decimate the deer population, they are the ones who value it and know what the animals need. most of the so-called "conservationalists" are city folk that have never even seen a deer in the wild(save driving around between cities, along the roadside). this is just a case of government stepping in and regulating(playing god)telling us what to do, and demanding payment for services we didn't ask for and don't need.

I doubt that the majority of deer poachers are "doing it for food." If you:
1) have enough money to own a deer rifle
2) have enough money to own a truck with a light on it
3) have enough free time to go hunting at night
Then you have enough money to put food on the table from the grocery store.
Poachers are just lazy, cheap, losers who give real sportsmen and women a bad name
Very true man. It should be fair game only.

I always have deer bedding down on my property. They are more than welcome to. It's a respite for them. No hunting allowed.

i live in southeastern ma. i myself dont know anyone that kills deer because their lazy,(some lose their jobs and cant find nothing else they can do for income, tree cutters roofers jounalists... you dont have to be a backwoods boy to kill a deer but it does help) if you call working 5am-5pm or later then going home and getting a quick bite to eat and wait till around 8pm to get started looking for a deer until around 2am, if you shoot it youve got to gut it quick for it spoils any meat because you cant waste anything, then go home and hang it to dry, if your lucky you could get a couple hours of sleep. if thats lazy then id hate to see your life.

but this might not seem true to the ones who get greedy and start selling it then thats when it becomes bullshit lies, for the food, no job... and so one.
im not condoning it, just giving a little insight on how these guys and ladies live their lives. god knows someones gotta tell th truth

Bull crap on the poaching stuff. Stop by the nearest house and tell them you need food for your family. Better do it sober, though. Any body with enough honesty in their bones know the "average" poacher doesn't do it for food only. Deer have seasonal and mating patterns that WILL be disrupted by spotlighters and road hunters. It takes away from the time spent by legal hunters hunting for the same animals. Hunters that possibly have frozen their butts off and gave up other "niceities" in life to follow the "sport" of hunting. Remember the word RESPECT you heard somewhere?

Well lets just have year round open season on everything and see how long the population lasts. In fact, maybe we'll all go shoot all the game on "your" land, and steal all the vegetables from your garden. According to your way of thinking, the land doesn't "belong" to you. God might just say that you don't have the right to "own" land

regulations are making it harder and harder for normal joes to go hunting in mass., meanwhile, the knee-jerk, reactionary politicians are trying to do away with our right to own any weapons. god and the constitution gives us the right to defend ourselves, the state wants us to do it with rocks and pointy sticks.
Jassy, I do agree with you on much of this one. Back when I was younger,it cost $5 to get your F.I.D. card. It was supposed to be good for life. I still have mine. With it you could get your hunting license and buy bullets and shotgun shells. Of course, doe permits, turkey, duck, etc were extra. If you wanted to own a pistol, you got a pistol permit for something like $20 good for 5 years. Now our lifetime fid card is no good and you have to spend $100 for a permit and renew it every five years. The cost discourages a lot of people from hunting and that is a shame. I remember old man Tovanni would walk down main street with his beagle and his shotgun over his shoulder on his way to hunt rabbits behind the airport. I used to stop at the Hoosac bank to cash my check with my shotgun in a cloth case, and no one thought twice about it beccause they knew who I was. Times have really changed. The fewer hunters we have, the less money for game preservation, then the higher the cost per hunter and on and on

What kind of moron would support the poaching of deer ?
There are several different ways to put food on the table without
being a complete loser and doing it illegally .
Your local food pantry most likely has venison stocked and ready for people in need.
people that make excuses to support dickwads that blatently break the law simply because there minds cant put together a valid plan to survive is pathetic .
it would be understandable if there really was an actuall emergency need to get food, but 90% of the illegally killed deer I see layed aside the road , only have there back straps taken and the rest is layed to rot and wasted , so fuck your excuses for supporting this illegal activity .....
